Alaska Internship...

Has anyone done this internship program or know more about it than is posted on their website? I tried contacting HR about a week or two ago but no response yet.... Just looking for general info about it and dates to apply. Seems like a slim chance since most of their recruiting is done at Job fairs and such (which tend to be at Riddle )

My best friend is on the internship now. He works in the Chief Pilots office in Seattle and does various work depending on what they need. Sounds pretty cool. He's gone on two delivery flights of new 737's, and he gets occasional sim time. As far as when to apply I'll call him and ask today. He's Riddle but I believe that most of the other interns there were from smaller school.s Anyways, I'll ask him and see. Later.

Intern

I don't know much about the program, but I will tell you what I have seen. I think the internship is for one year.
There is usually an intern assigned to the Chief Pilot, and the base chief pilots in SEA and LAX. Intern skin is to thin to play with the Arctic Eagles in ANC.
There may be other positions as well that are behind the scenes. (VP of flight ops, accounting, marketing?)

I have only spoken with one intern and he wanted to fly for Alaska someday. The internship gave him one interview when he wanted to cash it in. His question was, do I go for it now and try to become an Alaska pilot at the tender age of 24? Or do I go build some quality time and experience and save my one shot ace in the hole for later?

The pass rate on our new hire sim ride is about 50%, and that is testing 4,000 plus hour guys who fly the line each month. An intern with a few hundred hours would probably not stand a chance. With this in mind, I believe all the interns have held on to their "interview card" and will use it when they believe they are ready.

Once you get in touch with the HR department, they should give you all the details on the program.

Alaska Internship

I was an Alaska intern in 1999 and would definitely recommend it, IF you want to fly for Alaska. I did get a LOR from the Chief Pilot, however, I still have to meet the same minimums as anyone else that applies. The internship lasts about 3 months and is unpaid, but definitely a great experience.

I also went through the Alaska Internship, it the best thing I ever did. After the internship I was hired on, although not flying a flying position, it has helped me to buy my own plane. I went to Central Washington University, and at that time Alaska would send someone over to interview for internships. In the past year they have switched over to letting HR handle the hiring into the Intership positions, which now resembles how a person is hired into any position. I would hope that it is not a slim chance to get hired as an intern as long as you meet the basic requirements. Let us know how the process goes. I will pull any strings that I can, I for one really see the value in having Interns at the airline.
