AS & NW Are FF Partners

Unless they end their relationship between now and when the new flights begin, the irony of AS' new service is that NW FFers can earn miles on NW by flying AS, and vice-versa. FFs from NW can redeem miles on AS, and vice-versa. If the airlines are coordinating this then each may benefit after all (what amounts to anti-competitive and illegal division of markets, but they do it all the time).

We shall see.

I didn't know that NW even did ANC-HNL, was it cargo or pax?

It was pax. It was a seasonal winter thing. After Alaska announced ANC-HNL, NW announced they would not fly the route last winter. Then Alaska bought Hawaiian Vacations (or whatever the company was called that used Hawaiian Airlines for charters ANC-HNL) leaving Alaska as the only one on the route.

Alaska flying from their biggest hub to another city is not that big of a deal.

DTW is the biggest NWA hub, but you were close. SEA is also a crew base, isn't it? Lotsa non-revs.

MSN,

Same thing happened with AS's AA codeshare. AS got into some markets (ORD, BOS, MIA, MCO) because AA redeployed assets away from those cities and SEA. However, they still book their passengers there via the codeshare.

Same deal with NWA. Looks like they may be wanting to pull down some frequency and are relying on the AS codeshare to accomodate passengers.

Really, its no big deal for the big boys. AS only puts a couple flights a day into these cities anyway. So you're only talking about 300 passengers a day each way.

By "their," QCappy was referring to Alaska, with SEA being Alaska's biggest base. This is no big deal, except that it saves AAG non-revs who can't jumpseat money to get to a fro.
