Say someone wants a certain day off next month...say June 15th.

Is it possible to inter-mix bidding "hard-lines" with reserve lines, with open lines.

In other words, is there anyway to bid...

1. All hard lines with June 15th off ... if I can't get that then
2. All open lines with June 15th off ... if I can't get that then
3. All reserve lines with June 15th off ... if I can't get that then
4. Any hard line ... if I can't get that then...
5. Any open line ... if I can't get that then...
6. Any reserve line

I've gone through all the bidding stuff and it seems that once the hard lines are posted that's it...there is no waiting to see what the open flying lines will be. It seems that either you have to bid to get a line or not...so is it better to bid to get the 15th off and if you can't get that just take your chances that an open line that I can hold will have the 15th off, or do you bid any line and then drop/trade, etc. to get the 15th off.

Probably won't matter, as I don't think I'll be able to hold any line anyway, but I am curious "for future reference."

Thanks

You can't intermix your bid for lines.

Once bids are awarded, then you have first and second step trip-trading.

If you don't get a line, THEN you can bid from the open lines and/or reserve lines at the same time; once second step trading is over.

Confused yet???

Beware of the 24-hour flu bug going around. My kids and wife just got over it. I hope I don't get it too...

You can do that, sort of.
You can bid all the hard lines with June 15th off.
Then, if you don't get one of those, you can bid all the open flying lines and reserve lines with June 15th off. Open flying and reserve are bid simultaneosly. You can bid open flying with June 15th off, reserve with June 15th off, then other open flying lines and other reserve lines. It used to be that once you went down the open flying path, you were stuck with it and couldn't then bid reserve. They changed it for the better to the current system a couple of years ago.
Once you don't get a hard line though, you can't go back and bid other ones.

If you only want the 15th off then I would bid the best line for the rest of your lifestyle and then get the 24 hr flu. Remeber the 60 hours or sick time they fronted you as you were hired - That's what this is for!!

If you don't need to non-rev on this day off, get yourself the best line your seniority can hold. If you don't get the 15th off, use 3rd step ... ie use sick leave. If you need to use your travel benefits on this day off, you're screwed if you've called in sick.
PS They have ways of finding out if you use AS travel priviledges or JS on another carrier, so watch out for that one. You'll carpet dance for Uncle Mike for that.

Thanks...that's what I thought...it probably won't be an issue for me as I doubt I can hold a hard line anyway.
