I was just wondering for sh1ts and grins what the relationship between Alaska and Horizon pilots is like. I don't think its anything like the deep searing hatred between the U mainline and WO carriers. Whats the scope clause out there? I also thought at one time there was pref. hiring, correct???

I read a quote that I think pretty well sums up how Alaska Air Group treats both their pilot groups. I don't exactly know who said it but the quote was "Alaska Airlines does not have a scope clause, but we act like we do, because if we didn't, we'd have one.". That is a company that gets what they need through respect and cooperation, not threats and furloughs like US Airways. To more directly answer your question, I think the relationship between the two groups is rather amicable, especally given some of the situations existing at other carriers.

I was wondering too..

Learlove, I was wondering the same thing, and I'll be interested in the responses.

One of the things that makes things easier, as mentioned, is Alaska airlines uses Horizon on routes that need RJ's, where United (etc) uses 3 RJ's on a route just to get rid of a mainline flight that isn't pulling in enough premium pax. Also, I think there is less disparity in the wages from Horizon to Alaska then from UA to their regional carriers.

Ha! A two year FO at Alaska makes $111/hr (2-3rd year). A 20 year Captain at Horizon makes about $100/hr. 20 years at Alaska gets you a six figure pension. 20 years at Horizon gets you a handshake, a service pin for your lapel, and zero pension. Big difference.

Dude, You'll never change!!!!

Even now that you moved to "THE DARK SIDE"

PS, I love my pin!

I would love to be there when you get your ruby studded "loser" pin. Maybe I'll be furloughed by then and can be your FO.
