Item 6: Alaska Airlines today announced that after months of
negotiations, six new Airbus 320s will come onto the property as early
as July. As part of the negotiating process, Chief Pilot Paul Majer
secured an agreement for Airbus Industries to replace the Alaska
Airlines uniform hat with Airbus-provided berets for all of the crews
who will fly the new aircraft. "This will be a stylish and comfortable
alternative to the current hats," said Majer. "We're hoping that the
crews will like these berets enough to wear them even when they're not
on the job."

In return, Alaska Airlines has agreed to update the aircraft tail paint
jobs from the familiar smiling Eskimo to a new design. A Seattle-based
advertising agency has developed the new tail design, which will feature
the well-known and beloved cartoon character Pepe le Pew.

HAH! Let me guess...

...let me guess: The Ground Prox says, "Le Whoop Whoop."

Mon dieu (sp?)

A couple of months ago, I heard that the Air Force was going to replace the KC-135 aircraft with Airbus aircraft... Anyone know if there is any truth to this? Inspite of the "problem" with the French in the last several weeks, I would think the US would not follow through on that deal!

Nope, the Airbus Tanker deal went south last year. Here's the link:

The AF is just about to get final approval to lease 100 767's from Boeing (at a great rate, BTW) with purchase clauses at the end of the lease period.

The venerable KC-135 has done a tremendous job over the past 40 years; those tanker dudes gave me more gas than I probably deserved over my time in the military, even going emergency fuel twice during a major deployment just so I could get home with a comfortable level of gas on board.

I only hope the 767 lives up to the high standard set by it's predecessor. I already know the crews will do so.

Thank Goodness!!! It would definitely have been politically incorrect to do business with Airbus!
