Heard a rumor that Alaska mgt lost the arbitration with the rampers in SEA that they fired 2 years ago for not negotiating in good faith. The rumor was that they would have to rehire all the rampers and pay them back pay. Is there any truth to this new one? If so it would be great to see any labor group win against any management team.

Supposedly there was a clause in the old rampers' contract that said the company could outsource it if it would be done cheaper. I've recently heard Menzies has been asking for more money and that might put it over the "cheaper" threshhold, making the whole experiment a bust. Like we didn't know that already.

I'd like to see the AS rampers come back, collect the back pay check, then quit. Truth is everyone knows how f'd up this company is. Even if we have our own rampers back, they will just be Menzies re-treads. Same lousy service on the ground, just a few more dollars per hour.

Rumor had it ( how likely I dont know) That AS did not continue the contract with Menzies in SEA. So now what are they gonna do? Hire another new batch of people that have no clue what they are doing?

Final IAM Arbitration Scheduled for This Week
As many of you are aware, IAM still is in arbitration over the future of the Seattle ramp workers who were furloughed in May of 2005 and replaced by Menzies contract workers. The final arbitration is scheduled for this Friday, August 24. Once that concludes, the arbitrator will review all the evidence presented before making any ruling. We anticipate this will happen early this fall. We hope our fellow union brothers and sisters will prevail. In the meantime, we will continue to work closely with IAM and keep you updated as more information becomes available.
