Here are the million dollar questions.

1) Who will hire more pilots between now and 2033?

2) What year will Delta hire its first non furloughed new hire?

3) Who will be here in 30 years?

I had to jump in on this one. I don't know who will actually be left in 2033 (although Ty believes that Airtran and the new Braniff will be the only ones left probably). I think it will take 3-4 more years to get back all of the furloughs, and hopefully after that we will resume hiring. I think DL is doing the right things to adapt to the new and changing environment--creating a LCC with a great entertainment system and frequent flyer program with CO/NW that will be better than most. Delta has cut down on some of the fat and is addressing the looming debt problem---with eventual pay cuts from all employees. (When? When managment capitulates....) IF there is another large terrorist act in aviation, all airlines might cease (except Southwest, of course). As far as Major airlines go, I think Delta has a very good chance to be there in 2033. Will Airtran? I think they also have a good chance. They seem to have a good business plan and they are getting newer long range aircraft. They will have a new terminal in ATL eventually, and they seem to be doing a good job encroaching on other hubs, like USAir's in PHL. They will probably be around with the other larger LCC's--like Jetblue and Southwest.

In other words, your guess is as good as mine. I certainly hope that my airline continues to thrive in 30 years--that should be obvious.

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes: ;)

I think PAN AM in it's sixth reincarnation will be the largest and most successful airline in 2033. The most favorite aircraft name will be "Fingernail Clipper".

MISS CLEO KNOWS THE TRUTH
Miss Cleo disappeared after the FTC nailed her for fraud. You would have thought she could have seen it coming...

My bet is on Airtran. Delta XIV will be running a refurbished DC8 to Las Vegas with BETAMAX and Elvis movies.

Sorry, but I don't think it is truly possible to make a prediction like that. I hope that they are both around.

Come to think of it, by then, we'll probably have bought Delta. . . . . . .(just for the gates), and donated the fleet of antique B757 and 767 aircraft to aviation museums . . . . Heh-heh.

Honestly, I keep on showing up and doing my flightsand keep my fingers crossed (explains some of those 717 landings), but I will keep my side business ventures going . . . . I don't trust this industry to take care of me. I learned my lesson in the early 90's.
