How is the training at Airtran. I have recently heard of newhires being fired during initial training, and even during their probationary year. Can anyone confirm or deny how often this happens and how does the union protect these guys?

Anybody here with a bad Airtran training experience? (get fired).

(I am not going to Airtran, just thought some of the hopefuls should know the truth).

Lets see....I can think of one guy on here that had a somewhat bad experience with airtran. I cant remember what his name was though.

hmmmmm.......

(airline...make you happy now. It was an inside joke between friends for god sakes)

i just came through training as a capt. if you study, ask questions, and show you are trying, you would be fine. i heard one new FO took twice the number of normal sims to finish. do not come to airtran with the i am stuck here because they called first attitude. you will not like the result. airtran was my first choice and most of us are proud to be here. we try to do a good job and run a profitable and safe airline. if you do not like our history, do not apply. i think 15 years is long enough to prove that this is a new airline.

The last post by Longhorn is total BS. The person he is implying has done more for this pilot group than any single individual on property. Perhaps he is a target because he is vocal, but to the best of my knowledge, a fine pilot he is. And it is not cool to make unsubstantiated cheap shots.

Airline#5

Relax a bit.. He is one of my very good friends. I was hoping he would read it tonight and get a laugh out of it...geeez. My point to the guy who posted was that he asked if anyone there has had any issues with the company. I think its sad to see that he was treated that way by the company. I should have restated that he did not have an issue with training, but with the company. He is a stand up guy who put his neck on the line for the good of the pilot group. I am not making a cheap shot at all as many here know we are friends. I would stand by him any day of the week. Im sorry if you did not see the humor in an inside joke between the two of us.

From what I have heard...

As long as you are trying and putting forth the effort, the Training Dept will also put forth extra effort to see you through the process.
I've heard rumors there may be an unpleasant instructor(s) on the 717 side. What airline doesn't have one or two folks like that though?

I had no problems. If it is going on, it must be a well kept secret.

If you can't fly or you cop an attitude in training, that would be a quick ticket out the door at any airline.

If that happened, how would any union be able to protect you since you are on probation? How does it work at your Airline?

On another note,i heard that the v/s function will be remove from our old school airplane because some of those old school training pilots coming over, was given bad habit to new hires using v/s each time they need to go down instead of vnav which is more fuel efficient.
It's just what i heard, maybe someone can confirm or deny.

It's much more "old school" than any other carrier is today.

Yeah, I called a friend that is on the 717 there, and he said that the recurrent "is a ball buster" (his words, not mine). Basically they want you to rebuild the airplane for the oral.

I think that is more "old school" mentality.

I have been through bothsides and there is very little deference. Do not let the wieners scare you. If you call knowing where the air for the packs come from, old school then you may have a problem. If you are "smarter than a 5th grader" then you should not have any problems, if not "you might be a RED NECK."

Well I guess I'm a weiner but my initial 717 FO checkride/oral was much more difficult than the J41, CRJ or 328Jet type rides I've done in the past.

I'm not saying it was unfair...just more difficult.

Not always...

vnav is only as fuel efficient as the cost index that was input. i also wonder sometimes what HAL is thinking as it rarely wants to do over 2000fpm unless it is behind.

what cost index does AAI run the 717? do they switch them on different legs or run a flat index? we run a flat 18, but i think with our new flight planning and release software we will have some flexibility to change this with the winds.

I haven't flown too much in the last 6 weeks.

i have seen a lot of junior fo's saying this on here. do you think they will slow down hiring or is it simply a winter slowdown in flying?
