That's fantastic that Southwest is complying with the AD, please tell that to the family that is planning their next trip to Disney, they could care less if its Boeing's fault or not, it says Southwest on the side if the airplane (research SabreTech). One more convertible 73 and you and I could be in trouble. Think about that while sitting on your high horse.
Kharma,
This just shows how much you don't know about the process that's been going on the past few days. This is how it went down...
Southwest worked with Boeing to find the best method for evaluating this 'subset' of planes. The FAA was there as well. The AD will come out after Southwest is done with the initial inspections (the planes will be completely scanned by tomorrow). Southwest was integral in getting the RIGHT procedure for screening the planes. NOT the other way around waiting for the FAA to act and issue an AD. Just the facts, no spin.
Taken as a whole, we cancelled 300 flights on Sunday. We fly around 3400 a day and will have this ironed out by Wednesday. I'd say that's taken care of pretty quickly with minimal downtime. I hope it never happens, but it would be interesting to see how Bob and Airtran would handle an event like this..
By the way, no high horse. Just stating the facts that you obviously had no idea about.
We have the best mx guys in the industry and it doesn't take long to see that when working the line. I hope that you will agree with me shortly!
