Based on some rough math, a 737-700 probably costs $4,500 an hour to operate. Here are some figures from 2004. You would have to correct these for a 300% increase in fuel costs.

A figure of 1% per month was mentioned as a lease payment rate. Assuming a 30 mil airplane that works out to 300k per month. That is 10k per day (30 day month). Assuming an average of 8 hours flying per day (that is probably conservative) works out to 1250 per hour. Maybe the 2000 per hour figure is not that far off.
Just some numbers to think about. The real point is that our salary is very insignificant when compared to fuel costs (or any other costs). There is no reason for any of us to think about taking a pay cut.

Holy cow, look at MKE direct flights anywhere. Almost all are web special $49 each way even memorial day weekend. I worry that this is really going to hurt both MEH and AAI. Unreal, how can we make any money. Ran into a friend who with four days notice booked flight to BOS on AAI for $249, I asked why not fly MEH, was told our direct flight was $1000. Isn't that where we make our bread and butter. Is the short notice flying. I am sure that AAI is having a big impact on us, but is a double negative really a positive. I pray that we all come out of this ok. I really hope that there are no furloughs for you all. It is creating tension for everyone at MEH. Best of luck, but at sometime we need to charge enough to make a buck.

49 bones I believe is to bleed everyone till someone faints. Typical mis-management. "If they fall, maybe we can take their pax, jack the price and move on". So short sided, without an international money maker to cover the bleeding. Management! Obviously the pilot's are overpaid, to a fault. It's not managements fault, it's the pilots. Memo to state the above posted for all employees, to help with tensions. Excellent!
