Just wondering if someone could post how many pilots will retire in the next several years at AT if the mandatory age stays at 60. thanks
 
I believe most of the scabs have peeled away. AirTran is/will be the place to be.
In my opinion, the best service (lately) in the industry.

Never experienced that noise, maybe I was focused on the "female" FA.:)

One thing about the 717 (versus the venerable DC-9) is that the Air Conditioning is awesome. Sometimes it's quieter just to only have one pack switch on during ground ops.
 
The 717 air is noisy because the new packs are very powerful compared to the 9 yet the ducting is identical in size. Ya gotta love an airplane where it's quieter sitting next to the engines than it is in first class.
 
By my count there are about 80 eastern guys left out of 1100. The retirements are about 15 to 22 a year through 2010 and we have alot of retired military that fly for us. Hiring is projected at 200 to 250 a year over the next 3 to 4 years as we continue to grow 25% a year.

A way to fix that rush of conditioned air when the aircraft first begins taxi is this:

After starting engine Left during pushback, turn on both packs as you normally would, but leave the Air Isolation switch in OPEN instead of AUTO like we normally do. You'll be amazed at how quiet it is. Just remember to put the Air Isolation switch back to AUTO before you commence starting engine Right. --This is not an approved procedure-- so I only did it during one trip with a captain who wanted it done that way. It works though.
 
Read the Supplemental section. I am pretty sure both packs on and iso valve open is the PROPER and APPROVED method.

That portion of the AOM Supplemental section you are referring to deals with using APU Air for Air Conditioning after Engine start. Page S-3. So if you were going to sit out there on the ramp for awhile without moving on your own power, then this would be acceptable.

But when you get ready to start taxiing on one engine, then the party shifts over to the AOM Normal section where page N-38 tells you in the Before Taxi flow to make sure the ISOL switch is in AUTO. That is the approved procedure.

You are making a false inference. The Supplemental provides for single engine operations. It doesn't limit you to non-movement. This topic was further discussed in the last "hot topics" flyer from the training department.

If it's not in the book then it's not official.

The ISOL switch has to be in the Auto position to start the second engine. That's probably why thay don't advocate taxiing around with it in Open because you might forget about it when you go to start the second engine. That's all I'm saying.

Think it's worth sending in an app with 2000 lear 35 PIC (135 freight) or will it just get tossed aside?

I would, it can't hurt. Neither does good, solid, hand delivered recommendations.

What about retiring military pilots? Will their apps get looked at without the 500 hrs 121 PIC? (3800 - mostly single seat tacair)

Lots of us here. The requirement is for 121 or Military time. Go to an Air Inc job fair or get a letter of rec and you'll be competitive with your experience.

P.S. Love your screen name. My slalom course sits empty too often for lack of a driver when my wife is at work....
