When e-mailing a resume to airtran, as instructed on their website, is it proper procedure to e-mail a cover letter also or only the resume to avoid clogging their inbox? Thank you for your advice.

I looked at their website and it only said to email a resume. As for the cover letter, I always suggest my clients use one. You can simply write it in the body of the email. If you are including your resume in the body of the email, make sure you put the cover letter first.

When you are sending an email to the employer, no matter who it is, always reference the job you are applying for in the "subject" line of the email, i.e., First Officer Position. That way they will know it is not spam.

The real question is this: Do they want the resume attached or embedded in the email? All my clients have had their information walked in, so this has not been an issue.

I suppose you can do it either way and there are pros and cons to both. If you decide to email the resume embedded in the body of your email, you need to ensure it fits the parameters of a text resume format. If you drop your resume into an email OR online form in a traditional Word format, it will destroy the formatting and make it difficult to read. If you can do it in the correct format, it will take away their worries of virus problems.

If you attach the resume, the formatting will be retained. However, it will expose them to virus problems and they may not open the attachment.

Is there anyone out there that can contact a person they know in the HR Department at Airtran and ask how they prefer the resume come to them?

Hope that information was helpful.

Kathy

Thank you for your advice. The pilots I have talked to in Atlanta mentioned that the recruiters only respond to resumes walked in by at least two captains making the entire subject of emailing info worthless. If this is true then why would AirTran list an email address?

Is any of the above true from previous experiences? Thank you.

Woody, not true! I had a 3rd (maybe 4th) year FO walk my resume and cover letter in, it doesn't take 2 captain's to do so. What matters is the time on the resume. Also, if you don't have an "in", do what you can to attend one of the job fairs that they are at. Quite a few people that have been in the new-hire classes this summer chose that route. Impress them there and your resume won't just be on the 'big' pile.

Bottom Line with Airtran

If you dont have a sponsor employee, dont waist your time sending an email resume...I have friends there, have visited their SOC and even an aquaintance of the SOCC Dir. SS....in my case as a dispatcher I needed 6 to 8 years dispatching 121 before I could compete for a job.....but in almost all cases, you MUST have someone recommend you to the RIGHT contact person...

All the other mailed, emailed and faxed resumes and cover letters, are stacked in the corner of HR and eventually are cannon fodder....

Good luck to those applying

I spoke to them at 2 job fairs and had my package walked in by an FO who has been there less than one year, and I had an interview.

I share in woodpecker's confusion

An AirTran pilot was kind enough to walk in my resume for me back in March. By no means is this something he normally does, so he does not seem to know the answers to my questions about getting resume updates to them.

It is amazing to me that AirTran does not put any specifics at all not only about details regarding their requirements (such as the 500 PIC Part 121), but even more importantly about the format in which to email resumes to them. I don't know much about computers, which does not help me out in this case, but I always have experienced difficulties when trying send and/or open documents via email. SURELY there is a good way to do this, and SURELY AirTran has a preferred method/format/program in which they will actually view resumes?

Anyone else have any solid advice or first hand experience/knowledge about getting resume updates to the powers that be at AirTran? Would they prefer to have every single resume update walked in by one of their pilots? Is the request on their website to email all resumes just a facade? Thus the lack of info. on HOW they want resumes to be emailed? I find it interesting that ALL jobs listed on their website request resumes to be emailed and in no case do they make it known in what way they want you to email them. Do they not hire ANYONE (Ramp Rats, etc. included) unless someone on the inside walks in a resume?

Thanks in advance. By the way, I would rather not call Greta with these questions. As others have indicated on this board, their calls go unanswered/unreturned and rightfully so with the swarm of calls they must get and very limited staff. (Which again baffles me as to why they don't put this info. on the website!)

If you want an interview, BE PERSISTENT!! That seems to be the key. The two best ways are an Air Inc Job fair and any AirTran employee (not just pilots). I was also told by Jill Nidiffer while in ground school that we could send recs already. I recommend finding several folks to vouch for you if possible.

Good luck,
Catfish
