AirTran urges Midwest to come to negotiating table
Thursday February 15, 3:12 pm ET
AirTran Holdings Inc. reported Feb. 15 the federal waiting period for its proposed $345 million buyout of Midwest Air has expired.
"The Department of Justice's determination not to challenge AirTran's acquisition of the stock of Midwest during the waiting period, is an important milestone on the path to combining AirTran and Midwest," said Joseph Leonard, chairman and CEO of AirTran. "As we have frequently said, the combination of AirTran and Midwest is pro-competitive and the merger of our two airlines will create a stronger, more diversified airline, better able to withstand competition from other airlines, offer greater job security to employees and provide more service to the cities currently served by both airlines."

Airtran (NYSE: AAI - News) is trying to buy Milwaukee-based Midwest Air Group Inc. (NYSE: MEH - News) to create a low-fare carrier with revenue of about $3 billion in 2007. However, Midwest on Jan. 25 rejected the unsolicited offer calling it "opportunistic" and saying it "undervalues" the company.
Leonard said Thursday he hoped that with the expiration of the waiting period required under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act that Midwest will "consider the benefits to their stakeholders and sit down with us to negotiate a definitive agreement."

Frontier?

Or Mesa in a 70-seater?

Totally different animal. Should still p*ss off Northwest though. ;)

To be clear here....

Mesa hasn't served (and I use that term as loosely as possible) Frontier for years now. JAN02 I believe was the contract term. date.

Common Lear.. For a guy who seems to think he knows alot about the industry, you should at least know that Horizon is F9's commuter carrier.. And that is about to change as well.....

Don't be rude... I always thought it was Mesa; never really even cared that much to look into it enough to know for certain.

Hell, I didn't even know Frontier was flying into BNA until about 6 months after they were here and the employee parking bus started dropping us to where we had to walk past their counter.

Still the same question. Is it mainline F9 or an RJ doing MEM-MCO?

Didn't know NWA was stopping MKE-MCO either, I'm sure that has more than a little to do with the ramp-up as well...

MKE - MCO..business for both...why not hook up ? Put them shiny 737's on the route and combine it with that great Midwest service? What ya say eh?

This deal is close to being complete.... then there is handgrenades and horshoes......
