does anyone know??????
assuming one is offered a class date at Airtran, can one delay the class?
if one is hired, can one postpone going to class for a while in order to fullfill other obligations (NOT MIL, BUT OTHER OBLIGATIONS?)

Dude...go to class! With mergers being tossed around, it better be a good reason not to get your seniority number.

Official policy: six months from date of interview to enter class. After that, must interview again. They seemed pretty adamant about this, unless maybe you have a very, very good reason.

Maybe you should let other guys take your place. It sounds like you're waiting to hear from someone else...SW, maybe.

You can delay going to class. I really don't know if it can be called a pool per se, but HR was understanding and said to call them when I was ready to take a class date. I delayed about six weeks. It depends what you have going on. For me, it was the right choice.

the three most important things in airline flying are....Seniority...seniority...seniority...in that order.

I delayed on class at AA to get the base I wanted and, as a result, got furloughed by 20 numbers instead of employed by 20. And, in a smaller operation like Air Tran, one number means a whole lot. You gotta go as soon as you can...the consequences could be dire.

And, please tell us, your "other obligations" aren't loyality to your current employer. They wouldn't hesitate to lay YOU off if they had to.

Guys defer their class slots here all the time.

Whether it's a good idea or not depends on why you want to.

If you or a family member is having surgery, is sick, or has another obligation where you need to be home to watch the kids, then by all means, defer it and be honest with why you're doing it; they'll understand.

When I answered the phone and was offered a class date, my respnse was "uh boy..." because I had just started a differemt job that day. Sensing that there was a conflict, the HR lady said that I could wait for a different class if I wanted to. I said, "No thanks, I'll take the next class."

She seemed to be more than willing to work with me.

I know that Airtan has let one of our female pilots deffer her class indefinitely due to her pregnancy.

They never mentioned that to me - I interviewed in Nov 06 and told them I wouldnt be able to make class until June due to Mil obligations. They said "ok"
