Just wanted to add that people hired in Sept '00 are in next upgrade class, so looks like 2.5 years for now. That will pick up in Oct. when all DC9s are retired and everyone has transitioned over. Additionally, as was already mentioned, announsment of new equipment, which should come this summer, will most likelly bring 717 upgrade down to less then 2 years once again. The company already ran a test bid for new aircraft and looks like a lot of senior guys are bidding it.
Hope this helps...Good Luck!

Afew questions for you AirTran guys:

1. Has anybody been hired without an internal recommendation?

2. I fly out of concourse C in ATL. Do you think it would be helpful to walk over and see the ATL CP, since I don't know anybody at AirTran well enough to ask for a recommendation?

I do not know of anybody recently that has gotten on without a recommendation. As far as going to see the Chief Pilot... I don't see a real problem with that. Keep in mind that about 8 or 9 months ago we were all given a message to stop walking resumes into the CP's office. Apparantly he was spending all his time with people in his office dealing with resumes. I KNOW however that some people have continued to hand him resumes and he hasn't been turning them away.

BTW - to follow up on the previous post from fly-by-cable, this latest bid award for B-717 Captain is going to go as junior as February or March 2001 new hire class. It hasn't been awarded yet but will in the next day or two. What is happening is that many FO's are NOT bidding Captain because as a senior FO, life is pretty good right now, and they don't want to give that up.

All new hires WELCOME ABOARD! Ive been here almost 2 years and can tell you I really love it !!! When the 2nd class in April starts on the 23rd we will have over 800 pilots! And many more classes to go for 2003! For those of you still waiting be patient. I myself recommend alot of pilots and sometimes it takes a few months to get them into a interview! I just had one friend from Piedmont finally interview and I had been working to get him an interview over a year! But he interviewed and was HIRED! Lots of good news still to come..more cities...more pilots.....new aircraft! Its exciting to be here...........
