I've heard many "rumors" that AirTran doesn't like to hire turboprop pilots these days. I don't know if this is the place to clear up a rumor, but information is always good.

Does anyone have any hard info on this? Is it the case that they simply don't prefer turboprop pilots, or will they not hire them at all?

I know they have been hired in the past, just wondering what the ultra-current news is.

Hi, it's Dave.

Turboprop pilots are more eager to accept substandard wages in order to fly jets, and since Air Tran is in the middle of negotiations, the more turboprop pilot mentality, the better the contract will end up, for management of course.

If it were my decision, I'd hire cab drivers.

We had two Saab 340 pilots in my newhire class a few months ago. So AirTran does hire turboprop pilots. The most difficult part that they had was with the FMS.

You've got to be kidding me!!! "Turboprop pilots are more eager to accept substandard wages in order to fly jets..." Dude, you have no idea what the hell your talking about.

I can think of at least 3 guys in my class that were all turboprop guys (one of which washed out).

Hi, it's Dave. There are enough people who read this forum that believe I know exactly what I'm talking about. Don't worry, because I think you'll stay in business longer tha Jet Blue, but you'll NEVER be as good as Southwest.

So I'm just kind of curious, Dave... I know of atleast a dozen pilots, turboprop pilots, I might add, that have gone to the Southwests and the FedEx type jobs that pay very well. They have sat in the turboprop job far longer than they needed to. But they were "holding out" for better paying jobs. Your mentality that t-prop pilots are "more eager to accept substandard wages to fly jets" is categorically inaccurate and the reaching generalization is very unwelcome.

Only those pilots who actually waited for Southwest and FedEx are worthy of my respect. The rest of you are the type of pilots that me and my managemnt friends love to have as employees.

I am wondering if there have been a high number of turboprop washouts in the past few months, therefore the hiring policy may RECENTLY have changed.

How can an ex-regional captain with lots of experience wash out? The only reason I can come up with is they didn't study, not because they flew turboprops.

Well... I would say there is a big mix ... jets, commuter, military, 'turboprop', civilian, all of the above....

Furloughed Major folks, Independence, Transmeridian,United, TWA, USAir, Delta, .NWA.. you name it.. all walks of life... Rednecks.. Yankees.. Men.. Women.. Boys.. Girls...

Corp Ex, Colgan, Mesaba, Commute Air (or something..?) Great Mistakes...
All of the above...

They want safe, sharp, friendly crewmembers committed to delivering the best flying experience to smart travelers every day ...

Just like anywhere.. they are getting a good mix of good folks..

I dont see any underhanded action to hire banner tower's cause they will be happy with any substandard contract... What are you thinking fella ?? Please... Its a good job .... fly safe.. work hard.. get er done... have a little fun in the mean time.

Good Luck... Its a good place to work. Fly your trip... get home.

It can't be that hard. He probably didn't study and he didn't care. Looking back, he probably realizes how blessed he is.

Yawn . . . . . He's blessed to not be you, Crusty . . . living in your parent's basement, cursing the day you were furloughed, and looking for someone to blame.

False rumor. However, for every turboprop pilot there will be, at least, one furloughed mainline and one military type. To the best of my understanding, applicants' backgrounds are picked indiscriminately. The last couple of months there have been, at least, 2 retired Delta types that had quit Delta & collected their lump sums before the filing. Both had 27+ yrs at Delta. Don't quote me but I think the current class might have one or two more ex-Delta pilots also. Anyways, long story long, there does not appear to be such preference. Good luck,

As I said to you in your very first post on this board using your new screen name- "another nut-less newbie who is eager to slam everyone else's employer, but lacks the testicular fortitude to tell us who he allegedly works for".

I see nothing has changed . . . .

Whoa there tiger.

Let's not get carried away. We want this airline to be profitable.

Let's start them out at JBLU pay rates, then let them work their way UP to cabbie pay.
