i read a very short blurb today in USA Today that said there were 60 airports either ready or preparing to be ready to handle the A380. I remember an earlier thread here that stated that there were, in fact, very few aiports ready to take the A380, and even fewer preparing to take it due to the cost of updating their airports. which is it? i know that LAX and JFK can probably take the A380, but what other airports are in the running in America? Worldwide?

In the US, I read that SFO, LAX, JFK, MIA, and IAD will be ready by 2006/7 (SFO is already ready, there may be more), MEM, ANC, IND, and ORD should be ready by 2008/9 (let's hope it's 2008 since FedEx is supposed to begin taking deliveries in '08) and EWR, MCO, AFW, and HNL are other potentials prior to 2010.

The major consideration is not the runway - - 150 width is sufficient, and loads are comparable with other jumbos - - it's the gate and ground handling.
