I noticed in PIT that there are multi-colored lights at every jetway that flash either red, yellow, or green. I also noticed them on when weather conditions are bad. Some one said it had to do with lightning in the area. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thx

In PIT, they have yellow and red lights above some of the jetways. The yellow lights mean that hazardous weather (lightning) is in the area but not close enough to close the ramp. When the yellow lights are on, the rampers are not allowed to connect headsets to the aircraft. When the red lights are on, the ramp is closed and no one is allowed on the ramp...They are very picky about this because 2 rampers got hit by lightning a few years ago. I have never seen any green lights.
