Looks like we might be moving to Wichita Kansas. No more 10,000ft MEA's. Anyway if we do move we will be getting alot of land 15+ Acres. Anyway whats it take to put a grass strip in the back of your house? Anyone know? Also how much land is needed?

Check with the locals first....make sure its allowed (zoning and that stuff)

Then there's some kinda form (I think) that you have to submit to the FAA

(that might be just for being shown on charts...not sure about that tho)

I dunno...this came up on the AOPA site a while back...kinda pricy if I remember correctly...but it sounds like fun!

Grass strip

I do not know what the lay out of your proposed land but unless it is really long and skinny it will not work. I have 40 acres in my front yard that I have cattle in and I think it is JUST long enough and it is 700" by 1,400'.

Better check with the neighbors too cause they might not want you flying over them on approach.

An acre is not very big....208' by 208'. If you have 15 one acre sized lots lined up in a row, you have 208' by 3120' or so....if your property is a big square(say, 4 by 4 acres - 16 ac total), then it's 832' by 832'. It's a fair amount of land...but not for a runway. If you guys are already decided on a specific plot of land, better find out how it's laid out before you start thinking runway.

Assuming you have room for the runway, you should check with the State of Kansas aviation department as well regarding state reg's for private airports.

Right now its not a for sure thing. But my Dad wants out of CA. We have found some nice houses on the water with 30 Acres. I would like to get enough land to put a motocross track on, But if its big enough for a runway why not put one on it.
Thanks for the help
Tony

This is someplace else, recently, Tony, however, the biggest hurdle is local zoning. Where I live, the minimum is 10 Acres. Then, just mow it. However, if you want the feds to recognize it, get the paper worker ready, the arm lubed up, and lots of blue pens.

Toe fix!

Tony, the main thing for you is to please post at least once in every single thread on Flightinfo.

That way I don't have to keep remembering where to find her.
