Could any give me some info on Airnet? I am considering applying with them, but I have a couple question before.

1. if one meets the requirements for 135 PIC (I do), do they still hire you as a piston SIC first for a few months, or do you get a piston PIC route right away?

2. what are current upgrade times to jet SIC?

3. as a new hire do you get CMH only at first? How long before you can ask for a different base?

4. what is life like at airnet? Are most people happy there? I've heard pretty much different stories from different people; some happy, some not.

Thanks in advance for any inputs! I know there are some airnet pilots on this board, and it would be great to hear from them :)

Thanks for the replies,

I know about the old posts from 6 months ago, I read them all and I looked at the entire website... What I am looking for is current issues, as everything keeps moving in this industry.

Thanks for any insights..

Nothing has really changed in six months. No classes until next year and the pool is full.

I second FDX's comments. I just listened to the Pilot Recruitment Hotline by Craig Washka. He said that they were supposed to have a class on 11 SEP, but it's been a little delayed. He said the pool has shrunk though, the next class should start soon, the charter operation is expanding. All this means they should do some hiring soon he says. Call the hotline listed under the the "Contact Us" section at www.airnet.com They have a bunch of numbers, but there is one for Pilot Recruitment. Call it, they usually keep it pretty updated. Good luck.

Ha Ha Ha Ha.... <------ Sarcasm implied.

I don't know why we would be running a class right now. We, unfortunately, are losing our Fed weekend runs in Oct, which means we will have pilots without runs, which means more guys on reserve. Although, I do think reserve is a cush position with us. Most of them sit at home and wait to be called while bringing in a salary.

Ok, so just to humor the original question here goes...

1. No if you meet the PIC req's then you do not have to SIC, you will get a base right out of class or be put on reserve.

2. Current upgrade to jet SIC huh, well plan on a good year and a half right now, possibly longer. Just to give a great example here... I am in the 150's in seniority, and the last open jet spot went to #151. Sounds pretty good huh, well then consider we have over 260 on the list with about 1 spot opening per week lately. That would mean the last people on the list would have to wait two years at this pace. Now hopefully this will speed up, but we will have to see.

3.No you do not always get CMH as a first base, you will get to choose from open bases, or as it is right now, go sit reserve somewhere. As far as waiting for a base change goes, well when something opens up on a bid sheet that you like you are allowed to bid on it and hope you are senior enough to hold it. If you are, then it is yours for life, or as long as you want to keep it at least.

4. Life at airnet is pretty good. The money is good to start out, plus the raise on Jan 1st will help out even more. I love my run, as has been stated many times on this board, and many can attest to that. I believe i am one of the 2 or 3 guys in the company who can enjoy a normal life, meaning I DON'T WORK NIGHTS.... woo hoo. Other than that it is each his own, some love the night life, others don't. You really will not find out how you feel until you do it.

Hope that all helps.

SIC's?

I sent in an application last week for a SIC slot. I'd be more than surprised if I got a phone call but do you know if they aqre hiring SIC's. I assume if there is no movement then current SICs are moving, thus no new SIC's would be hired.

No we are not hiring SICs and I don't think we will until well into next year. We have too many pilots, and a lot of them are doing nothing. SICs are only hired when future growth is more then certin.

Yep, sic's are not going to be needed for awhile. I do know that we have limited the number of SIC's in our system to under ten, and i believe it is closer to 5. And that is only when we show a need for more PIC's in the future.

BHM

I don't know if anyone saw the last bid sheet that works for AirNet, but we were just awarded a new contract in BHM. There were 14 bids on the last bid sheet. I think nine new runs in BHM, and five other open bases. I think there is only two SIC's left in the system, both close to upgrading.

ACI's work that they couldn't hack. Keep in mind we lost more runs than that from the weekend routes. It's always good to see runs on the bid sheet, but in this case we're still in the hole.

From the "I know a guy who works at Airnet" file . .

My friend says that the early October class is a go, and they will be looking to fill another one shortly. According to him the new contract in Birmingham and a number of resignations (approx. 10-12) will actually leave Airnet SHORT of pilots by the end of October. This is already taking into account the loss of the weekend fed runs. Looks like there might be hope yet!!

Good Luck!

That would be good news, one can only hope. Unfortunately Airnet is pretty bad at internal communications so everything is a rumor. The couriers know more than the pilots.

All have GPS. Some have radar (most of the 310s in the south) and overall they are the best maintained in the bus IMO. One thing that Airnet doesn't mess around with is substandard equipment. Maintenance doesn't even have a budget. If it needs it, get it.

Yeah, i love our MX guys... I am sitting at home for the second time in two weeks because something is broke on my plane. The mechanics here in Jackson said both problems left the plane in a flyable state(<----- read as "deferrable per MEL"), but MX in CMH said fix it, then fly it. Ahhhh.... I love paid days off!!!!

I also love the MX guys. I rarely get days off, but they are great and everything gets fixed. I have heard some horror stories from other people that do similar work and I am happy to be here.

Hey contactapp, when you say not hiring SIC's do you mean they may hire PIC's? And how does that work?
Thanks

I think that PIC hiring is continuing at a very slow pase. I have no idea when it will pick back up. If you are asking because you want to work for Airnet, I'm not sure this company would suit you. It doesn't matter how many hours and type ratings you have, you will still need to start in the Baron. You could be in the Baron for 2 years before you upgrade to the Learjet. This job is more suited to CFIs with a thousand hours starting their aviation career. Someone with a LR-JET rating and 6500 hours should be able to find a charter job in no time making MUCH more money than Airnet. Why make a backward career move? Have you tried NetJets, Flexjet or Flight Options?

Hello contact and thanks for the reply. I have a admit that it was strictly for mercenary reason. I do not want to give up my seniority number with ABX and Flex, net, and other would want me to do that. I may have to though in the near future. I also would like to stay in the Dallas area and airnet would have let me do that. I guess I have to hurry and wait.
Thanks,
j

There are only about 3 prop runs in Dallas and the only chance you could get one is if one of the pilots there got a job somewhere else or upgraded to the Lear. More than likely you will end up where no one else wants to go like, TEB BUF BDL DTW RIC MKE anywhere you don't want to live. If you are just referring to jumpseating back to DAL, they do have flights to DAL but I don't think they fly to DAL on FRI and SAT

I'm a CFI with 500 and will move ANYWHERE ! Any outlook on the SIC situation with Airnet?

Last week in Dulles, I spoke with a young lady in jeans and a denim AirNet shirt.

She told me that she thought they were not currently hiring.

Craig Washka did not return my telephone call today.

I wouldn't hold Airnet as a viable option right now or in the near future. We lost our weekend runs and thus have a stack of pilots hanging around with no work. I don't have exact numbers, but it ain't just 2 or 3.

On the SIC...
I just spoke with a guy that I worked with and he is starting class as an sic. Kind of...he has 1160 and another guy has 1140 and they start class October 23rd. So we are hiring slowly as stated. But SIC's I kind of. Good luck.
