Well Tampa is very senior and is a Lear only base. Although, I am hearing rumors that the Tampa Lear will be re-located and based in Orlando. OPF is a Baron only base and comes out for bids a couple times a year. Doubtful to get OPF right out of training. Give it six months.

OPF has one baron route and Orlando has a navajo route. TPA and FXE are jet only, and I don't think anything short of Armageddon itself will get those guys to move on.

Don't get too bummed if you can't start out in Florida. I grew up down here and unless I want to live at home, I will be living elsewhere.

Why? Everything is too damn expensive. There are much cheaper places to live in the country where a pilot's paycheck can go a lot further.

Don't get me wrong I love the beach and nice weather, but I don't know if the extra cost is worth it.

Airnet's web site lists BUF as a prop base. Is it still active? What aircraft is (are) based there? How often does BUF open up for bid?

Ive heard they have a Navajo and that it opens up pretty often

BUF has a couple pilots based there with Navajo runs. I would say BUF open 3-4 times a year, maybe more.

Please tell me your joking with that TEB question. If nothing else is available, you WILL get TEB. That was always the least desired base due to cost of living. My choices two years ago were TEB and CMH. Glad I chose CMH. (LCK now)

2 years ago, I got CMH floater right off the bat. Not sure how it is now since i'm no longer there. However, in my 1.5 year tenure, I was CMH floater 10 months on the props, approx 2 months jet sic floater CMH, then they bid out the CMH runs and I was forced into 101. Then I transferred to APA (Denver) on the jet as SIC where I was a floater for about 4 months. I enjoyed being a floater due to the variety of people I got to fly with and the cities I got to see. It's just the luck of the draw I guess.

one man's rubbish is another man's gold. i have other reason keeping me in nyc. anyone know if the application score will be changed if a remark is added stating teb is preferred?

If you are a floater, plan on 24hr weekends at home, otherwise you are on the road the rest of the time. Floating does not seem like a good deal if your married. Of course, they have gone to the 8/6 schedule now. I did it for a few months. It was ok, but after 6 days off I was ready to go back to work. It takes 2 of the 6 days off to switch back to day schedule, then back to night schedule thus only giving you 4 days of a social life. That was the hard part. However, I would recommend AirNet to anyone. It's a great 135 operator. It's the best flying I ever did.

I was based there for a year...it's not as bad as people make it out to be. There are(at least when I left a few months ago) five pa31's based there and six different runs. Some of the best runs are out of there if you like free time. 223 was only 5 hrs duty 3 hrs of flight (they still pay you for eight hrs) and had a fifth night (overtime). 222 was similar but no fifth night.

There would be a pretty good chance of getting it fairly soon if not right out of training.
