Airnet bases

I was thinking about applying to Airnet and was wondering if any current/former employees could tell me how easy it is to select a base. Are there bases that are harder or easier to get? Also, how often and how does the bidding work for choosing bases? Thank you for your responses.

A base can be bid once there is an opening there (a new route or a vacated route). The bid sheets go out and the highest seniority bidding on the route gets it.

Richmond VA, Cincinnati OH were hard to get when I was there. With the exodus of many to the regionals, I have no idea what the status is.

Seat/Base lock for one year! Unless something has changed in the last six months, that's what you have to look foreward too. It's anyones guess as to where you can end up. BUF or ORL your chances are the same.

The base lock has been lifted... sort of. You can move to another base at your expense provided that they don't have to train you in a different aircraft.

Why I am asking is because I would prefer a central midwest location to keep me within a 6-8 hr drive from my family as best as possible. I have heard good things about this company for a place to start a career at, but location is relatively (no pun intended) important to me. I have heard about jumpseat benefits during time off also but was mostly curious how often new bases became available and if there was heavy competition for them. How fast is the seniority progression typically?

Midwest bases do not come open very often that i know of. I do not remember seeing any props here lately...which may be a good thing, meaning they may be ready to upgrade soon since they have been there awhile. One good question is, why the 6-8 hour drive? You can jumpseat around the whole country in less than that amount of time, so having a base on the east coast is not that difficult for getting home to the family...especially if you live in or near a Southwest Airlines city. You will see that jumpseating will keep you closer to home than you think you are.

As far as competition for bases...it depends on the base. There are some people out there who are waiting for a specific base to open up so they can bid it, while there are some that are not that desireable. You will get a choice from available bases during the first couple days of training, and that will be your base until you can bid out of it as has already been said above. Also, new bases come open weekly, usually, and they can be a mix of props or jets depending on what hapens that week. It changes all the time, and it keeps us all guessing.

So what would be the chances of someone just getting hired on at Airnet and getting IND as a base? Or i guess i should ask where the hot spot is for newbies.

Your chances of getting any base of choice are slim to none. But it does happen occasionally that someone gets thru class and their base of choice is one to choose from. As far as I know IND is a BE-58 run, so as long as you get qual'd in the 58, when it comes open, you can bid it, if you hold it, then you move there, on your own free time (days off).
My outlook on things.... With NetJets looking to hire about 900 pilots or so in the next few years, it will keep some sort of flow moving from AirNet to the Fracts. Currently we just had two pilots finish last night with us, to start at "AirNet North" on monday.
If you get a chance to bid on BHM... Take it. Awesome place, its the south (cheap to live) and lots of hotties running around in that town!! Oh, yea, and they're all day time runs with 5 days of work. What does that mean... it equates to about 30ish your first year. Something to think about.

I live about 40 miles from IND right now and i was just exploring the chances. BHM doesn't sound too bad, i lived pretty close there when i was really young. K thanks for the info.

Are the bases shown on the Airnet website the current list, or is there an updated list. I don't see BHM listed as a prop base. Yes or no
