I have a question that I couldn't find the answer to on the FAA website, and it's after 4 so the FSDO's closed. So here goes...

If I request for a replacement certificate for the purpose of removing my social security number as my certificate number, am I good to fly with my original certificate until I receive the replacement?

Thanks...

You don't need to surrender the certificate, so keep it until the new one arrives. Request the number change and they'll mail you a new one.

i hate to seem obtuse, and I do thank you for taking the time to answer, but...

Does that mean I'm good to fly with the old one until I receive the new one, or do I need a temporary?

Thanks again...

thanks amish...for some reason i thought that since the certificate number had changed, the old certificate was invalid.

The certificate doesnt change in terms of privileges. Only the ID number associated with it. It's kind of like getting a replacement credit card (with a diff. account number) in the mail if you compromise your account. Cut the old one up when you get the new one or just keep it.
