Where is Midwest? I wonder how much we are gonna loose this quarter with all the wx cancellations. It won't be pretty.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just when you think......

Hey, a quick question on Allegiant. While in Vegas last week I saw at least fifteen or more MD's sitting on the tarmac. Why were these not flying and how are they making money if they arent flying? Thanks.

Just adding Allegiant to the mix.

Was it a Tuesday? I don't think they fly then.

It very well could have been a tuesday. Any idea why they dont fly on Tuesdays....seems strange. Looking at the rows of parked MD's it appeared they were out of business.

I believe on an old gas guzzler MD-80, fuel costs are alot higher than aircraft rent costs. Thus no need to keep aircraft utilization rates up. If the passenger demand is weak on certain days of the week, it is much cheaper to just keep the aircraft parked.

We chop the last 2 departure banks here at Airtran (9PM and later) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during slow times of the year due to these fuel prices. We do this and our aircraft are alot more fuel efficient than Allegiant's.

This is exactly the reason why we park most of our Vegas birds on Tuesdays. Being that we get most of our aircraft for 4 to 5 million a copy, we don't need to keep them flying constantly to justify huge lease payments. The demand for travel to LAS is relatively weak on Tuesdays and Saturdays, so we feel that there is no need to fly around empty planes while spewing 7000 lbs/hr of expensive fuel out the tailpipes.

before everyone gets all excited about Allegiant, why don't you post those fantastic pay rates. Aren't they less than VA?
go to the LCC forums and there is a thread there that shows comparable rates. feeling a little intimidated are you?

The next three weeks are when most airlines will report 4th quarter and full year earnings (a few exceptions). Added an estimate of 4th quarter profit/loss in $$$.

I wonder how many of the carriers reporting a loss are currently in contract negotiations with their pilots?
