I'm on the fence with pursuing other interests or hanging in there with the airlines a little longer. It might make more sense to prioritize other things and fly on the weekend for fun. It's not that I don't like flying, but rather, a practical matter of whether an airline will eventually provide a decent adult lifestyle or the ability to provide for a family. For me, at this point in time, it's not.

I left ACA 10/02 (I wish you all the very best). I felt it was time for a career change that had a little more stability, and would allow me the ability to support a family. Flying for me was a great single lifestyle, now I work for FedEx as a courier. I don't regret the change, and still get the opportunity to instruct and ferry an occasional a/c. I may get back into it in the future, but family is the priority for me.

Call me young and naieve, but there has never been anything but flying on my horizon. Flying line cant be any worse than flight instructing... can it?

If you left flying, what would be the best alternative?
It's hard to find a career rather than just a job especially with training in such a specific field.

That's why I'm pursuing further education that is not aviation related.

I'm not looking at leaving any time soon, but I like to keep my options open. Fortunately for me, I have a diverse background and should another big downturn or loss of medical put me on the street, I can find a way to pay the bills. Something way better than delivering pizza.

Have considered a career change but hate working with the overabundance of 'knuckle heads' on the ground. In my 30's but still hate the AGE 60 Rule(my opinion is in the minority)due to all of our flying careers being shortened by 9/11 and the fall-out, freezes and furloughs. Looking at Part135(9 pax or less operation or freight) or foreign operator when 60 rolls around. Looking into completing my CDL-A and Commercial Maritime(merchant marine)License as backups to flying if landLOCKED!
A superior pilot uses his superior judgment to prevent ever having to use his superior skills.

Will only consider something different if I lose my medical. In the mean time, we gotta love Darwin!
