Airline asks judge to block pilots status quo strike

AIRLINE ASKS JUDGE TO BLOCK PILOTS STRIKE: An airline that flies packages for Amazon and DHL Worldwide Express asked a federal judge to force nearly 250 striking pilots back to work in anticipation of the busy holiday season, Bloombergs Spencer Soper and Mary Schlangenstein report. The pilots ? who work for ABX Air and are represented by the Airline Professionals Association, Teamsters Local 1224 struck to protest staffing shortages. The union says ABX Air is violating its contract by forcing pilots to work an excessive number of emergency assignments preventing them from taking time off because it doesnt have enough pilots to meet the growing demands of companies like Amazon,? Soper and Schlangenstein write. In its lawsuit filed Tuesday in Cincinnati, ABX warned that if flights carrying DHL and Amazon packages are canceled, millions of dollars of freight and packages will go undelivered during the holiday season

* Air Transport Services Group - "ABX Air, Inc., is taking multiple steps to resolve and end an illegal work stoppage that began tuesday by its pilots"
