To get your foot in the door with the airline of your dreams? I would say good deal. Looking at the price? Rip off.
I went in Jan to one of these fairs and was given the booklet from 2006. I even asked for the 2007 version and was told it's not in print yet. Great.

AirInc job fairs are much overpriced but they do help to land a job. They help to get an interview with some airlines more than others - for example when it comes to AirTran they can be very helpful.

Personally, I think the best organized job fair and the one where you’ll see most airlines being represented is the woman-in-aviation job fair - I am not a woman, but have been to this job fair and I think it puts AirInc to shame; just my personal view of course.

Either way, I think job fairs are helpful because the recruiters you’ll meet are often the ones who decide who gets an interview and many times are also the ones who will conduct your interview as well.

Btw, I hear Kit Darby is not with United anymore, I heard he retired early. Any truth to that???

I disagree.

I think it's a “rip-off” for both civilian and military guys/gals - don't see any difference there (even though some will strike gold at those “rip-offs”).

It's also pretty informative to both civilian and the military guys/gals. Not sure why you are trying to portray a difference there. There's none - both civilian and the military pilots are looking for jobs.

Also, what current regional airline guy or civilian cargo guy needs to sit and listen to airline/FAA medical requirements, duty day regs, flight time regs, and that an airline interview might have a sim eval or a ground eval........(IE. new info for separating mil guys, been there/done that for regional/feeder cargo guys)

The info is basically worthless for most people already in a 121 job. The publications that they print to prepare you for interviews are poorly written. If you have half a brain, you can find all the info you will ever get at an AirInc jobfair by yourself and for a much cheaper price. If you want interview prep go to Emerald Coast Consulting. Emerald Coast is much cheaper than AirInc. With that being said, you can't put a price on face time with a recruiter from the airline you want to work for. I got a JetBlue job due to going to AirInc. Not sure if that was a good thing, but I had NO internal recs and 500 PIC time and they called me 1 week after AirInc. That was worth the 150 bucks at the time. I also hear the SWA, AirTrain, DAL, and UPS really like meeting people at AirInc. I think it is worth the price to get face time with the recruiters.

Very true! I wonder if buying carbon offsets would help someone in securing an interview with a specific airline?

Let’s say, a 1,000-pound carbon SWA-offsets will cancel out the “1,000 turbine PIC requirement,” or a €1,500 carbon offset will count toward the “transoceanic experience” requirement at UPS.

That's it - I'm gonna patent AICO - "Airline Interview Carbon Offsets!" My neighbor Al Bore will be proud!

EmeraldCoast is much cheaper than AirInc.

I think the main purpose of an AirInc seminar is to get an interview, not to prep for an interview. I agree the EmeraldCoast does a great job in prepping for an interview, but you have to secure an interview first…

I personally believe your Jetblue interview was all about you, your luck and the perfect timing. I have talked to one of the main Jetblue HR recruiters in the past (used to attend the job fairs myself helping with recruiting) and was told that no one gets any “extra points” in their computer system by attending a job fair. So whether you went to 1 or 5 or even 100 job fairs, it won’t help you, your score will be the same and your name will be pulled from the system when your score is high enough.

I do not think they used to bypass their computer selection system for folks who attended a job fair but maybe they’ve changed that.

For a better price check out flytheline.com operated by Lori Clark. Kit went after her big time when she entered the scene. I don't think the price is justified by AirInc. It was a better idea when getting to the airlines was worth the trouble, but now its so easy...

3 words. . . Women in Aviation. . . you get the same benefits as you do with Air Inc, but without the BS and at a fraction of the price. Plus, its a much smaller group so you'll have time for more then just a handshake.

Yes, its fine for men to join and no, no one will think your "weird" for joining and if they do then you can laugh at them while your at your interview.

Air Inc is a total rip off. I went to one many years ago and the reference booklet I got was so far out of date. Heck, most of the 135 operators I sent resumes to apparently went out of business years before. Kit put the package together nicely, but falls way short of delivering what you really need. He's laughing all the way to the bank.

Even though I agree that AirInc is way too expensive, the booklet should NEVER be the reason to go there. Instead it's the face-to-face interaction with the recruiters. Maybe you weren't very good at that part? just a thought...

This has been beaten to death. For someone not familiar with coming into the civilian aviation job market, the Air Inc job fairs are very beneficial. I wish they had had these when I got out of the Navy 1977. Kit may be considered a rip off, but he is providing a service. You elect to use his service or not. You do not judge people who use his service. As stated before the face-to-face time at the Job Fairs has resulted in jobs, renewed networking and meets new people who can join you r network. Going once should really be considered. What are a couple hundred bucks in the big scheme of a job search?

Just got an email from Airinc advertising the next job fair in Atlanta and I must say it’s been a long time since I’ve seen this many airlines attending the show. Almost feels like late 90s again, of course there are some great names still missing and some other great names won’t ever show up, TWA comes to mind…

Not to aid in thread drift(because I think this is a good thread) but do you really believe that Al Gore invented the internet? If you're disputing that he said it, I heard it with my own two ears(along with millions of other pairs of ears). Oh, and relax.

Back to the topic.....I agree with the naysayers on this one. A couple of years ago Kit wrote an article talking about all the "quality" jobs there were to be had in the aviation biz. (remember this was about 2 years ago and I think I was furloughed at the time...from a regional). This guy is a vulture. Pick up the phone, send a fax, research on the internet. Is ours the only business where this kind of interview intimidation takes place? I mean, they're only employers, and people, too. An interview is a TWO WAY STREET. Be knowledgeable, presentable, professional, the same way you were when you interviewed for your first job. If they don't want to hire you then you probably didn't want to work there anyway.
