The company I once worked for and used for rentals has closed its doors and I am now looking for some options around the Greater Pittsburgh/Youngstown area. Summer is finally here and I have an itch to go and get the $100 hamburger. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Try AmAir at YNG. They've got a couple of 172's and one or two other aircraft, I believe. If you need info., PM me, I can get it for you. I fly out of YNG.

Have you checked out the Beaver County Flying Club, or the other FBOs at BVI? I'm curious as to what company you used to work for.

There's New Castle (UCP), I never rented from them but they have reasonable rates. They have a few Cherokee 140s, an Arrow I, and a C172. The owner, Marti Haski, is a really good guy, and he's a DE who I took my private checkride with.

There's also McVille (P37) in Armstrong, PA, but that may be too much of a drive for you. I'm not sure. A friend of mine flew out of there; it's an airport with two grass strips. They have very good rates and well maintained airplanes. I fly out of Greenville (4G1), about 20 miles east of Youngstown, but that is also probably a long drive for you.

The FBO at Youngstown, AM-Air, was really expensive last time I checked.

I don't think Butler has rentals, so UCP would probably be the most convenient.

Let me know via PM if you want more details about any of these places.

I was instructing at Pro Flight until last May. They closed their doors in February. Pan Am (Beaver Aviation) does not rent to non students anymore. Haski is always an option. Marti has a great reputation around the area.

I'm moving to that area in the fall to start school at CCBC for their ATC program. Would be nice to find a CFI job while I'm going to school, as well as have access to an aircraft for the $100 hamburger as you mention.

Let me know if you find anything!

Pilotman,

Beaver Aviation (AKA Pan Am) is the sole provider of flight training for CCBC. I believe they are very short on CFI's right now and I have several friends instructing there and they have nothing but good things to say. If you live in the area it would be worth checking out. However, they don't rent to outside students only those that are active in the program.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be through the area in a few weeks and will make sure to drop off the resume.

I'm surprised that there is only one FBO there (that doesn't rent to non-students at that). When I came through the area a few months ago, it seemed to be a pretty busy airport.

Condor Aero Flying Club

is a flying club out of Zelienpole (8G7) airport. Their rates are real good and membership isn't too expensive.

Condor Aero was the best deal going when I was flying around western pa. They have three or four C172's an arrow and another piper thats fixed gear I just can't remember what it is. Nice people and good prices.

I did all of my training out of New Castle, I guess being from there helps. Marti is great, the aircraft are well kept, and the instructors there are also very good. The flying club out of Zelionople Airport had a good deal about 12 years ago. New Castle also has a club there, Call Haski, they can give the phone number for the info. I believe the club in UCP has just a warrior

AFJ (Washington Co.) rents warriors, i do a lot of flying out of there...jdru25, and anyone else from beaver, i live in robinson twp...PM me maybe we can get together some time...we can discuss that endless chatter you CFI's do on MY opps frequency...jk:D

Pro Flight's website is still up. I'm assuming by the other comments that they have closed? Does that leave Pan-Am as being the only "FBO" as such that offers training on the field?

Also according to AOPA, Moore's Aviation Service (or something along those lines) also provides instruction.

Any information on the above or any CFI positions int he area would be much appreciated.

Moore still does some flight instruction and she does have a 152 to rent. I haven't been up there for quite some time. I'll be stopping out there this week to find out the info.

Thanks for looking into that.
