Aircraft insurance - Yours gone up?

About to pay my bill and see that it has gone up 10%, admittedly it is for a 152 so only about 55 dollars but on principle I like to get a good value and I am also lazy so probably not worth shopping around to get a better deal if everybody's is also going up.

What is everybody else paying and thru whom?

I just bought a 152 Aerobat and insured it through AOPA for $708 a year. I gave them a hull value of 30K. 1,000,000/100,000 on the liability. The coolest thing was I did it quickly on-line without talking to a live person using my credit card. Personally, I thought it was a good rate and didn't shop around after seeing the cost. But it sounds like you have a rate that's even less. What I'm really looking for is a quote that would allow me to do some instruction in the plane....I bet that's gonna be pricey.

Yep... mine went up also but since we (myself and my partner in the plane) added instrument ratings to our tickets the decrease that it made in the premium for both of us made the increase this year a complete wash.

Ya'll are lucky. Anything commercial is going through the roof. Our Part 135 BE-200 - 2 yrs ago = $22,000, last = $32,000 (with reduced coverage, this year = $47,500 (again reducing coverage). We could have bought 3 C-152s by now.

From $2500 a year to $4000 a year over two years. Never a claim or violation. Just paying for the money the insurance companies lost gambling. (Stock market downturn). Need legislation to keep insurance companies from investing in high risk stuff.

Who has the cheapest insurance.

Avemco just quoted me $1600/ yr for a Stinson 108.

My 150 is insured by AIG. Avemco wanted over twice as much for less coverage. My insurance went up about $40 bucks over the last three years. AIG's number can be found in the AOPA directory. I have never had a claim but they seem OK.

We use a company in Michigan called L.L. Johns and Associates. They will look around at all of the insurance companies that offer aviation insurance and will let you know what the about the best rates that they find. They even let me know about AIG offering a discount for AOPA members. Really nice people.

Currently we have our policy through a company called US Speciality Insurance and our coverage is as follows.

Injury and property damage
1,000,000.00 each occurrence
100,000.00 each passanger

Medical payments of 3,000.00 per pasanger

Insured value of 114,000.00

and deductables of: 100 (not in motion)
500 (in motion)

We are covered in Canada as well and the qual. for pilots to fly is 250 hours; 25 hours of retract and 5 hours in type.
