Aircraft Dispatcher requirements

Aircraft Dispatcher reqirements.
I'm just hoping to clarify/confirm some details on Aircraft dispatcher requirements.


The FARs and info I've read show that to be an aircraft dispatcher show a requirement of 2 years of Pilot or equivalent experience and....requires that all applicants for an aircraft dispatcher certificate have a minimum of two years experience in employment directly related to aircraft operations....or ...completetion of the approved course.

So... I don't reckon 2 years as a CFI would qualify for 'Aircraft operations' correct?

Your background and experience well exceeds the requirements of attaining a Dispatcher license. I received my license back in 1999 and didn't have any previous aviation experience, other than finishing my Aviation degree and a private pilot's license.

That helps a lot, although I am surprised to hear it-- I was told by someone that the knowlede required was equivalent to an ATP rating.

Guess I will look into taking the test then.

If you compare the ATP Written Exam and the Aircraft Dispatcher's Written Exam, there are many similiar questions, hence the statement regarding the knowledge requirement.

The Dispatcher's Written Exam has quite a bit of weather, aircraft performance, and weight and balance, for obvious reasons.

If you do take the written, trying to complete the practical exam maybe difficult, not because of knowledge, but trying to find a DE. There are several schools that offer the course, albeit expensive. I would check to see what you would have to do to complete the practical exam, i.e., do they provide the aircraft data and/or weight & balance information? FSI has a program (or two available) as does a place in Phoenix (??).

I do possess an Aircraft Dispatcher's Certificate, however my route to this accomplishment was a little different than others -- part of my undergraduate education.
