Any of you ABX guys heard anything about a Letter of Intent supposedly signed Friday by ABX to buy Hooters Air and Pace Airlines?

The rumor has been making the rounds. I had not heard a letter of had been signed.

I doubt there are plans to fly pax, but you never know. I suspect Pace has something else ABX wants, but don't know what it is.

My vine said we were buying the ETOPS program from Pace Air. I don't know nothin' about that sophisticated stuff so don't know whether that makes any sense or not. The Pace/Hooters rumor has been persistent enough that I believe somebodies been talking about something. I don't expect ABX to ever fly passengers, though.

Makes sense I guess. I wouldn't discount the pax thing though. Joe might want a piece of the action hauling pax to the ME for the army.

uh, you don't buy ETOPS

ABX/ Pace-Hooters

This rumor has been making the rounds in ILN since December but for the life of me I can't see how a buyout would help either ABX or PACE. Obviously the Hooters portion will no longer exist soon enough but one would expect the other PACE operations to continue (Vacation Express/ Charters, etc.). Best of luck to former CCAir buddies at Hooters Air. I would be happy to take a resume in to ABX for you if you would like, still not hiring but hopefully in the near future. Just PM me.

But you can buy a certificate with ETOPS in the Ops Specs....

That is fine but if your planes are not ETOPS then the certificate does you no good, I find it hard to believe that abx would buy pace for that or any reason

Maybe they want the 75s and possibly the 733s (though the price would have to be pretty compelling on these).

They're all leased anyway. Besides, all but 1 757 and all of the -300s have gone back to the leasing compnay, I think.

Be Paranoid

I am not saying this to be a pain, I would be very paranoid of any new certificate being a dodge for labor contracts. You just never know and these days management is motivated to save cost no matter what.

The ETOPS theory makes no sense to me, type up a program start some mx tracking and 1 month later if you are already a 121 you can be ETOPS. If a company does not have the expertise to create a program then there are plenty of hired guns that can do the job for far less than buying a company.
