average 12-16 days off depending on seniority.
Good relationship between management and labor. Getting 23 717s this year, retiring the last of the dc9s by Oct03. Will announce a new plane sometime soon. Either a 737-700/800 or A319/320. My bet is boeing but things change alot around here. Great place to be, good people. We have 1 day trips thru 4 day trips and standups. We will be one of only a hand ful of carriers that will be profitable for the year(LUV,JBLU,AAI). We will have a nice 4th quarter profit from what we been told. That about it in a nut shell.:)

What's the reserve callout time? I live in Birmingham. Also, how long are most guys on reserve?

AV8OR,

The reserve call out time is 2 hours, with "telephone availability periods" of either 0400-1800 or 1000-2400, with provisions for early release on the last day going into days off. They can also assign "ready reserve" where you sit at the airport, but these are for 6 hr periods only. As far as the time spent on reserve, it depends on where you fall in the hiring pushes. I know guys hired in 2001 that spent virtually no time on reserve. I know guys that interviewed with me and attended class in Feb '02 that spent months and months on reserve. (There was not another class until Aug 02.) I was in that Aug class, and have spent 3 months on reserve, although I can expect a line with the next bid. I could have had a CDO line this month, but didn't bid the less attractive ones, opting for a 14 day off reserve line instead. There have been 3 classes start training since my class, with another scheduled for later this month, then perhaps another 3 to 4 through May. So, the reserve times are relatively short right now. However, the classes will probably slow down for the summer, so if you get the last class until fall, then reserve tends to be a little longer.

learjetguy,

The competitive minimums seem to be in the 4000-5000TT range, with many guys having significantly more. They are very big on prior 121 PIC time. Right now, they are only interviewing guys that have been recommended by current AirTran pilots. I understand that even this stack of resumes number several thousand, and the guys getting called now have had their stuff in around a year, on average.

2 hour call out for reserve, I think reserve is lasting 6-9 months for the most part.

As far as competetive, we had a class of 14 that started on Jan 9th. 2 from AMR, 1 UAL, 2 Usair, 2 Midway, 1 from Comair, 1 from ASA, 4 from the military and 1 from Gemni cargo. I hear that they want 121 PIC time but I don't think its an absolute.:)

Airbus??

757,
any truth to the rumor that you guys
are getting some Airbuses??(Nothing beats
spreading rumors on the internet!)

Learguy

learjetguy,

All rumors...but something with longer range is definitely in the works and should be announced within the coming few months. The choice seems to be between the A319 or the B737-700.

PS--An informal poll of the pilots' preference has the 737 leading by a substantial margin.

FLX and 691,

Thanks for the info. It's a moot point right now. Haven't even interviewed yet. In any case, best of luck to you guys who are there. Looks like yall are really headed in the right direction. That's good on a lot of fronts.
