Anyone heard of, or have any info on Air Force Reserve Techinicians (ARTs)? Sounds like a good deal to me!?

Thanks!

My understanding of the ART position is that it is technically a civil service job (GS pay scale), but you must be a military member in order to get the job (Reservist).

ART jobs are hard to come by in most units since they are handed out on a seniority and/or need basis. For example, if Major Tuffluck just lost his job at AA, has kids and a wife, he'll get the ART job before Lt Hardupfercash who is single and will just use the money for booze. That's NOT a rule, but it's just one example of how an ART job may be handed out IF they're available at all. I imagine they will be a little easier to come by in another year or two as the civilian job market continues to improve.

Skyward80 is pretty much on track; it's a selective process these days but in 1999 they were handing out the ART slots like candy (for those who blew their airline chances). The pay's pretty good:

AC = GS-12 (roughly 70k)
IP = GS-13 (85k)

then you can easily add 30k from reserve pay.

Opportunity. Due to the US Army occupying a country, the ARC C-130s have been tasked extensively and subsequently experiencing retention problems. While this won't help in the ART world, several units are hiring AF pilots as TRs. Many units are activated.

Hope this helps.
