Wow, a lot of answers here. Maybe if you list where you found the term, type of aircraft, engine, text book....

And I don't see how this is a FAR question.
 
Inside the engine, back of cowling, there are strips of "rubber" to help seal the backside of the engine to cause more air to flow around the cylinders for cooling. It exits via the bottom of the cowling. This a good question for the mechanis forum.
