Thinking about using AC out of SYD to YVR next month... I've never jumpseated with them before. I did a search, and looked on the ALPA jumpseat guide - So I know I need to list and get my record locator number and they will probably give to a gate pass to get to the airplane.

But things always run different in SYD so I was currious if anyones ever done this on Air Canada before or if anyone's ever used AC not too or from the US. Also has anyone gotten luckly with first? I always bring goodies for the crew on these long flights just be be extra nice anyway, but if there is a secret I would love to know it.

Thanks!

I got stuck in Hong Kong and used them to get back close to the USA, Toronto. The crew was great but it was a pain explaining to the ticket agent and such. They charged me 50 bucks for a fuel surcharge and I was on my way. I didnt want to argue or question the fuel charge just wanted to get home.

This was last december.

I can't speak for the peculiarities of jumpseating across the Pacific, and I'm at the fracs now, but when I was 121, AC always treated me great in the j/s on several flights within Canada. List with their crew scheduling number the night before, get a standby boarding pass from the check-in counter much longer than one would ever have to do (if at all) in the U.S. (90 minutes or more is advisable), and find out from their ops (the CSR supervisor will usually know) where to meet the crew so you can greet the captain in the terminal in plenty of time. In a turn, the Capt. needs to be notified to come up the jetway, since only the Capt. has the blank j/s forms.

In my experience, most AC Capt's were unfamiliar with jumpseaters and the procedures, such that they had to dig into their FOM, but, once they saw that I was on their recip. list, they were always happy to help me out.

I forgot to mention that I had to corner the flight crew in the terminal before they went through security. There is a form they carry that must be signed and presented to the ticket agent. If you are still interested pm me with a phone number and I will give you the complete low down.

a few years ago i rode on them from SYD to HNL. i didnt have any problems at the check-in counter...in fact, they were very friendly and helpful. i had to pay some taxes and stuff but that was it. if i remember correctly, at the time they were contract workers from another airline (UAL i think). the whole crew was very nice and took really good care of me.
