AGR retirement

I'm looking into taking a full time guard job once my commitment to the Navy is done. If I do 11 years active navy, then 9 years AGR (full time guard), will I begin getting retirement immediately or will I get paid retirement when I turn 60 like a part time guard guy. Appreciate any info. BMD

You'll get the full retirement starting the day you retire, the same as if you spent 20 years on active duty.

You will have to meet a board after a few years in the AGR position that will decide if they want to continue you to 20 or not.

True to all the above. Reserve AGRs are also eligible for the bonus (if you're flying)...I don't know if that's true for Guard AGR positons.

Yes, I have several Guard AGR friends getting the bonus.

BUT...

....if, God forbid, something was to happen to you, your family will not get survivor benifits until you would have been 60. A little known fact the AGRs in my unit just learned.

How does it work in ANG if you don't make promotion at field grade? Are you able to stay through 20? Can you stay past 20 as a terminal? Does it make a difference if it is AGR or traditional Guard?
