For yucks, compile a full list of starters in professional sports over the age of 40.

I decided to go to mlb.com just to see how many baseball players are over the age of 40; I didn't distinguish between starter and bench warmer. Here are the results:
Craig Biggio Astros 12/14/65
Steve Finley Giants 3/12/65
Julio Franco Mets 8/23/58

What does this have to do with age 60? It's all about diminishing skills. How long should a pilot take to engage thrust reversers on a contaminated runway with a critical landing distance? If your answer is less than 18 seconds/whatever it takes to keep the plane on the runway, then perhaps we need to adjust mandatory retirement age below 59.

Andy,
Do you have some kind of inner access to the NTSB's investigation? Do you have some secret knowlede that the rest of us lack? Maybe you are wise beyond your years and can reach the correct conclusion as to the cause of an accident 10 months before the NTSB does with a fraction of the informaion that they have.
Or perhaps you alluding to an incident without having the guts to directly mention it. Then you take incomplete information out of context to try and make a point.
I hope that as you age and your skills degenerate that your judgement and class improve. You've got a ways to go.

First answer: No.
Second answer: No one lacks it; perhaps you just don't want to look for it.

It's in just about every news story.
As for the NTSB: They have likely already reached a conclusion and are ensuring that they have a thorough report with no stone unturned. As for release date, it'll take at least a year.
Alluding to an incident with no guts to directly mention it: If you're a pilot, you'd have to have been in a coma for the last month to not know which accident I am alluding to.

I hope that as you age, you eventually recognize that your coginitve abilities and reflexes decrease.
I find this discussion as distasteful as telling a 70 year old that it's time to turn in the car keys. It's not pretty, not fun, but has to be done. As we age, too many of us refuse to acknowledge our diminished physical and physiological skills. And it's not just flying airplanes; it's in plenty of other areas as well. Or do you also feel that it's everyone's right to drive a vehicle until the day they die?

Andy,

Your comments are totally shameful. The fact that you would try to use this accident to support your stance on age 60 is, I believe, about as low as one can go in this profession. You have absolutely no facts to support your assertion that age was in any way a factor in the MDW accident.

It was a favor to AA Capo CR Smith from FAA chump Quesada, who was stuck on an age requirement he wanted put in the contract. From a Union standpoint you should hate it, from an F/O standpoint you should love it.

You are correct, sir.
