I don't know who would WANT to stay past 60. Most of the guys I fly with now that are pushin' 60 are seriously considering an early out. The BS is just getting too deep.
If ALPA does change their stance, they're gonna have to consider the majority of the pilots they represent who want to go at 60 and make it OPTIONAL. The earlier I can retire, the better. This is a great job but its still a JOB.
With the high number of furloughs out there, there is little or no chance that Age 60 will be revisted. Alpa is against it, and so is my Airline--Delta---for example. They don't want to continue paying the super senior guys the big bucks. They would rather have younger and junior people flying the big equipment.
The age 60 rule should be changed to age 50. That way you can throw out all the senior ba*tards, lower the payroll, reduce the cost of retirement, and recall call the juniors that are entitled. When those juniors get to be 50, then you can change it bact to 60 or 65.
Since the "rule" has always been arbitrary BS, why not keep it that way? In the absence of common sense, a greater lack of common sense should be welcome.
As for ALPA, don't worry about them. ALPA is like the tide, always changing. You can count on ALPA to go with the flow, whatever flow favors the folks that run it at any given time.
ALPA has lost interest in keeping the rule. Their silence is almost deafening. Look to new legislation ( both house and senate ) to bring about changes very soon. You all might as well get used to the idea. Plan your life and retirement as if your own airline was about to go ch 7.
