I have sat here and listened to this whining over and over. I hear it at work too. I don't want to babysit someone over age 60. If you can't afford to retire at 60 then you can't afford it at 63 either.

You didn't whine when the others in front of you had to retire so you could get their seat.

For my part I have no desire to stay past 60. My advice to you is simple, You can live without the summer home. The vette is not necessary. You should have planned better.

Now that's real intelligent and bold advise. Thank you!

Vettes? Summer homes? What planet are you from?

I would also like to retire at age 60, but the unstable nature of the airline industry and the virtual disappearance of the classic pension plan will make this impossible for myself and most other airline pilots.

By the way, its not the retirement age that is being challenged, its age discrimination. If you can pass the physical and the flight checks then why arbitrarily set a retirement age?

The argument for forced retirement at 60 might have some legs if it were practiced elsewhere. As a non-121 pilot, I can fly as long as I can hold the medical. Are my 135 passengers less important than yours?

Should my doctor retire now to make room for some interns who have a few years of experience? How about the hosts of older professionals all over America? Should we force them to stop doing their work so others can take their place?

The age 60 rule was put into effect when black folks couldn't sit at a lunch counter in many towns. We fixed that, and this will be fixed, too.
