If you are a pilot for Continental and you get involved with a start up airline by holding a paying position, is that against company policy with CO? Is it a violation of the union contract?

In some states the workers board will state 'you owe your employer a duty of loyalty', that is you will place all your working efforts to one company and not 'compete' with them, unless permission is granted otherwise.

I don't think that it's a Contract violation, but rather a violation of the FOM. You would need to have permission from CAL to work for their competition.
