After Major Airline Pilots Speak Out as "Expert Witnesses" in the SWA MDW Crash...

...is it any wonder?

Any one know if this is an accurate quote and, if so, the story behind it?

"It's hard for me to feel sorry for them. They're a bunch of spoiled brats. Historically, this has been a really cushy job once you get to the majors. You make a lot of money, and you don't have to fly a lot. But there had to be a market balancing at some point."
--Jeffrey Hefner, Safety Chairman for the union that represents pilots at Southwest Airlines, talking to a New York Times reporter regarding airline pilots having to work longer for less.

Not everyone agrees that the longer working schedule is a problem. "It's hard for me to feel sorry for them," said Jeffrey Hefner, the safety chairman of the union that represents pilots at Southwest Airlines, who have always flown longer hours than pilots at older airlines.
"They're a bunch of spoiled brats," he said. "Historically, this has been a really cushy job once you get to the majors. You make a lot of money, and you don't have to fly a lot. But there had to be a market balancing at some point."
This is the exact quote. It is great to know we have people of such caliber as this idiot representing the airline pilot and his profession.

Read the thread "Nothing but Gray Skies". In that thread you will see that Jeff Hefner says that he never even talked to the reporter, let alone make the quote. SWAPA is working on the legal response to the NYT.

It is great to know that we have pilots of such caliber who don't always jump to conclusions. This comment was not made ....even the reporter can't remember who he talked to.

Think about it genius....A story about economics...and the reporter is gonna go to the Safety guy for a quote? Yeah...uh-huh

Wow, so you're going to believe a reporter for the New York TImes over a fellow Aviator?
