How long do/did most of you wait from after you got your initial CFI til you went for your CFII and CFI MEI rating?

Was it a fairly quick process in relation to training for your cfi?

If finances permit, I would recommend going right into your II and MEI while your head is still in the game. It only takes a few hours of ground and four or five flights to get ready, depending on ability, of course.
I actually did my CFII and MEI ride at the same time. If you could find an examiner willing to do that, you may save some money. Compared to the initial rating, or any other rating for that matter, these add ons would definitely qualify as quickies.

CFI

I think it depends in which class of aircraft you obtained your initial Commercial. If you got it in a single, I would go after all single-engine CFI ratings. Then get multi and MEI. If you obtained initial Commercial certification in the multi, a good plan would be to hop in the right seat of the multi and get II and MEI, maybe during the same practical. Then find a 172 or something and get airplane CFI. Good way to maximize the bang for your multi hours and make them productive.

Did my commericial in a 172 Skyhawk.
I guess I'll get my MEI and CFII at the same time then, find an FBO and get it down ASAP.

Without a doubt get your CFI-I immediately... When I ran a Flight School years ago we wouldn't even look at a candidate without a CFI AND CFI-I... I would also recommend getting your CFI-ME...

Here is an idea for you... Find one or two flight schools you would like to work at, do one rating at each of the two... This will accomplish 2 things, first it will give you an indepth look at the school and second it will give them a chance to get to know you... Many of the CFI's we hired were students of ours at one point or another... You never know what it might lead to... One of the guys I hired as a CFI to fill the opening I created when I left is now flying Falcon 900EX's and Falcon 50EX's with me...

As far as my personal time frame... I got my CFI-I within a week after getting my CFI. Got my CFI-ME within a week of getting my CFI-I...

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the tip. The FBO that I did my CFI training at, has 5 CFI's now and that is one to many, so they aren't hiring anytime soon. I will try to find a place ASAP to get this CFII and MEI done in the same ride.

As for job search; Now that my CFI is in hand, I've sent maybe 10 resume/cover letters out this week to local FBOS, Cargo companies, and even a regional or two. They went out Monday, as of today, still no word from anyone. I am thinking of following up mid next week with the FBO's and in 2 weeks with the regional / cargo carriers. The two regionals I applied at both had references of people I know that work there, so hopefully that helps (a little). I have a buddy who flies for a regional out of Chicago, who has low hours like me that got hired last year. He is going to get back to me with a contact name so I can send resume/cover letter in to them. I have to work on my instrument skills, I am afraid they are very weak now, and if I do get an interview, I am going to have to be sharp on them. So i guess I getting this CFII will help.
