Anyone have any recommendations on some FREE software that converts Quicktime MOV files to Windows Media MPEG files?

My digital camera takes movies in the MOV format, but saves them as a very large file (typically 1MB/sec). I'd like to convert them to reduce them to MPEG to reduce the file size and make them easier to email/upload.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Good question - I have the same one. The only converter I found was converting it into a FLASH movie file.

Everyone has the same problem, but no one has any answers...

Surely SOMEONE out there knows something!!!!!

It might be tough, a lot of the audio/video encoding software is proprietary and expensive. Same reason it's tough to find free DVD player software. I assume you've already tried a search on www.download.com ? I came up with about 18 shareware-style hits that might work for you. Otherwise, you may have to bite the bullet and pay for something if you really want it. (Or find a way to creatively steal it online or from an IT geek friend...)
