When I was doing my written for CFI i also did one for Advanced Ground Instructor,,What do I do with the written test? Do I need to fill out a 8710? Is there any point to have this? Should I also do the Advanced Ground Instrument Instructor?? any ideas or thoughts? thanks

Fill out an 8710 and take that and the written results to your FSDO. If you shelled out the cash to take the test, you might as well get the certificate. It is a requirement if you wanna get a Gold Seal CFI

That would be too convenient to work. I'm sitting on mine now for about a year because of the hassle of taking it there.

I took both the AGI and IGI exam results and two 8710's to the FLL FSDO. As it turned out they only needed the top portion filled out and only a single 8710 for the two ratings.

They also took copies of every license I have (inlc. driver's license) and they looked into my logbook as well. Dunno why... but they did.

The people were very very nice and very very slow. I am not sure if it was up to them or may be they were waiting on something else that I did not know about but it took nearly 2 hours and only 2 guys were in front of me. Also someone showed up w/o an appointment and he was booted albeit the fact that they were apparently slow.

On the other hand, there were a few senior employees who seemed to be very helpful. One took the time to educate an A&P about some scenarios he may encounter. It was interesting to listen. After witnessing that dialog I would not ever hesitate to walk in and ask for info or general guidance. It seemed that they were really trying to educate, not just regulate. Thumbs up for them in that respect!

Whatever the wait was I would still do it since you have already paid for the exam. It will expire in 24 months if I am not mistaken.

MooneyPilot - you have already done the hardest part (paying for it). Might as well go ahead and get the certificate.

It doesn't carry any weight - but it is something else you can add to your resume.

I did mine. Next day, I drove over to the FAA building (for security reasons - make an appointment ahead of time!). I had to wait about 5 minutes for the next available "FAA Guy". He then took me into a small room to complete the 8710. While we were doing the paperwork...another "FAA Guy" stuck his head in the door and said "hey Bob, you got a minute?" He responded, "Give me about 30 or 45 minutes to give this young man his oral exam." My heart started pounding because I was not expecting to do an oral exam with the FAA. I guess I had a ghost look on my face because both started laughing. (It was just a little prank they pull).

I was in and out in about 15 mins.
