I used to be a sim instructor / check airman and was displaced after 9/11. I'm now facing recall to that position, but have opportunites to interview elsewhere. I never thought I'd be looking for another job, so never logged much time after coming to work here.

Now that I'm getting my logbook up to date for interviewing, I'm not sure I know what other airlines accept for instruction given in the sim. I have several hundred sim hours as instruction given and NFP for type rides. This time is the bulk of my last few years of work experience with the exception of my last 18 months in the CRJ 700.

How should I log this, or should I just block the calendar time on my resume as "121 Instructon given / Simulator" so an interviewer knows why I didn't fly much in that calendar time frame?

Thanks in advance.

Sim instruction given

For one thing, the fact that you were a 121 sim instructor is a major plus. Being a check airman is also a major plus. Aside from it being stan and eval experience, some also regard it as management experience. If I were you, I'd play both up big time on your resume.

You obviously cannot count your sim instruction as flight time, but you could create a separate column for it in your logbook. Most certainly you can list it as "Simulator Instructor" in the flight time section of your resume, separate and apart from your total hours. Your type ride checks would count as flight time and you could list it as "Check Airman," etc.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck with your efforts. Also, good to hear you might be recalled.

They wanted to recall current and qualified, but I may luck out anyway. Fingers crossed.
