I never said there wasn't any sacrifice to getting into this industry. I have been in the airline industry in different capacities for 12 years! Thank you very much! I can't stand young kids like yourself, who claim they are an expert at the industry who aren't flying for an airline! If you want information on the industry, you go to the source. Someone who is there. Now, while you think that the airline industry is so bad, then you don't need to talk. Go do your little puddle jumping in your One Fitty-two!!!
There is a large opportunity out there. Airline pilots are still in the top ten in pay in the US!! While it isn't perfect (what job is, tell me) they are still getting paid for flying and working 12 to 18 days a month! The average airline pilot is making $133,500 per year (included is the $18,000 FO at Colgan) in that average according to MSN, Career Builders, Monster, etc.,!
In some capacity? Give me a break! How long have you been actually flying for an airline? From your profile it appears as though you are not.

You need a reality check. This career is in the toilet. To a janitor, it probably looks good.

I was at sun n fun a couple of days ago and all the "academies" had booths set up. I sort of checked them out as I walked by and the good news is that the folks manning them seemed to be bored.

The average median salary for a pilot is now $105,775. You think thats good? What a joke. Good luck paying back your loans and raising a family on that one. Oh, throw in my local real estate prices and you can forget ever owning a house. Beter hope your wife (husband in your case) gets a good job while your cheering this crap on.

The wife actually pointed and snickered at the Mesa/San Juan booth yesterday. They just kind of looked at the floor. :)

Good one. I thought about it but all I could allow myself was a shake of the head and a smirk. Not sure if anyone would have even noticed, but I wonder if any of them did notice any of it over the course of the week.

Anyone here working one of those booths?

Let's not take this out of context here....people think the average pilot makes that. I have no figures to go by offhand but would bet that regional pilots outnumber major airline pilots, so the average pilot makes far less. And let's not forget how many, many years it is before any of todays up-and-coming pilots will wait to see that kind of money (if they EVER do).
