I was back and forth from PHL this weekend on an ACA 328.

Noticed something odd -- instead of firewalling the throttles (or slowly working them up), both folks did three stops on the way up -- I presume because even the first push had me back in my seat a bit.

Also, no reversers? I got seat 11A on the way back, and noticed the mains squealing along as the PF tried to slow down... Is there atleast anti skid?

It did seem to wallow through some mild turb, which didn't bug me, but the pax behind me seemed a bit white-knuckled...

It was an interesting ride. The "cosmetic" plastic above the rear lav fell off every time someone slammed the bathroom door (much to the chagrin of the pax behind me). And some of the drawers in the galley came flying open when they worked up the throttles on takeoff.

Cheers,

-Andrew

Regards to the power application, it sounds like they weren't being very smooth. The DoJet is a FADEC plane and the thrust levers have three detents: Cruise, Climb, and Takeoff. Our procedure is for the PF to being the power up to the Climb detent and the PNF sets the power to the pre-determined setting, which in our case, is full forward. It kind of doesn't make sense to do it like that when you do full power t/o, but if you do reduced power take offs it allows the PF to concentrate on steering while the PNF fine tunes the power. Most people will coordinate a little better or bring the power levers just over the climb detent so it's a smoother application of power when the PNF brings it up to the full t/o detent. And yes, it makes for a pretty good kick in the pants.

No thrust reversers. The plane a) really doesn't need them. It's a slow lander and the brakes work pretty well, and b) Fairchild wanted to get the aircraft certified as fast as possible. Thrust reversers would have taken longer... so the speculation goes, anyway. It has anti-skid, as nearly all airplanes do. Works well.

Wallows through turb... somethin about that straight wing. It's much better than most turbo-props, but doesn't hold anything to the RJ with it's swept wing and higher wing loading.

Sounds like the F/A didn't close the galley draws very well, and T/O will send anything not locked down flying. That piece of plastic above the bathroom door is held on by velcro (as most everything in the cabin is), and sometimes falls off.

Fun plane to fly, though... :D

Patriot,

You guys do reduced power takeoffs in the 328Jet? I thought the program was not available (w/ PW306Bs).

We (ACA) are Not authorized to do reduced power take off's in the 328, we dont have the take off data.
