The 328JET, being the glorified turboprop that it is, has an electrical system similar to the turboprops mentioned above (primarily DC). If the APU was inop, we used a DC power cart. There is also an AC plug, but it's for maintenence.
This response is in reference to Gulfstream jet aircraft.
The G-II, G-III, G-IV, and GV all have electrical systems composed of both AC and DC components. Because of system differences, however, different models have different external power [GPU] requirements. The G-II and "DC powered" G-IIIs use DC external power. "AC powered" G-IIIs, G-IVs, and G-Vs use AC external power. So do the newer derivitive model Gulfstreams, The G-300, G-400, G-450, G-500, and G-550.
All models have an external DC power receptacle located about six feet aft of the nosewheel on the bottem right-hand side of the fuselage. It is covered by a small access door. The receptacle accepts 28 volt DC power from a standard oval-shaped 3- prong plug. The 'IIs and "DC" 'IIIs can power all components of their electrical systems from external DC power. The later models can only power some of their electrical system components with external DC power. That's why maintenance and flight crews of later model Gulfstreams prefer to use AC external power on these aircraft.
The "AC" G-IIIs, G-IVs, and G-Vs use AC external power from a receptacle located on the centerline of the aft belly. It can be found just behind the point of a small "V" formed by an airflow spoiler and just in front of the forward edge of the "hell hole" access door. This receptacle is also covered by a small door. It accepts 115 volt, 400 hertz, 3 phase AC power from a rectangular shaped, multi-prong plug.
Unfortunately, there is no way to tell the difference of a "DC powered" G-III from an "AC powered" G-III from the outside, so a line technician will have to ask the crew what type of GPU they require.
I have no knowledge of what GPU type the aircraft of the other Gulfstream product line made by Isreal Aircraft Industries [ the G-100, G-150, and G-200 ] use. Go to the corporate and fractional threads to troll for information on those aircraft.
