I know the 15 were operated by PNCL previously, and 2 are from elsewhere, but I was just wondering if NWA announced what time frame they would give 17 CRJs to PNCL? For example, is it 1 jet brought back per month, 3 a month, 5 a month, etc. etc. ???

Judging by the schedules from NWA they will need all of them back by the end of May.

Oh ok, thanks!

I know NWA said something about removing up to 3 of those 17 CRJs per month after March 31 if the pilots don't have a new CBA. Read: yet another tool in the box of management threats. So anyway, I guess that implies that the 17 CRJs have to be online by the end of March, or by the end of May? After all, if you have to removing a plane, it has to be online in service to begin with.

Flew one of them last night.

It's all about the money gentlemen. Just like when PT sent out a statement indicating that they would switch over the 44 seaters to 50 at a certain rate. The planes were all switched within a matter of weeks, not months like he let on. The same will be true with the returning aircraft. Time is money.

Whoa, all 17 brought back by end of this month!?!

What about the hiring to keep those planes staffed?

How have the new hire classes been running? Once a month? Biweekly?

I'd assume they really would start to ramp up new hire classes if 17 CRJs are coming back.

the 15 will be back by the 1st week of Feb... the "extra" 2 are sometime later.
The 1 Compass is using can't be released until they have an a/c on the property.

Not all 15 are returning to the line though. A few will be used as spares and a few more will be used to cover those in heavy checks. Ideally all 15 or 17 will not be in service until late spring.

I think 2 classes a month is still on track for N/H... the latest list I have has a group coming out in about 2 weeks, then about every 2 weeks thereafter. DTW alone will have an extra 30 something FO's by March.

Not that it will help, becasue we have at least that amount in upgrade as of the end of the month.

and with only 3 sims, and 3 new hire classes going on right now, plus upgrade training...yeah. This is going to take awhile

You guys only use the 3 sims at the MEM Corporate Education Center?

Does PNCL contract other sims (perhaps at other locations) for new hires or for upgrade training?

They did a LONG time ago, when the CRJ was first coming on property, but not in recent years that I heard of.

Amusing thing: if they upgrade all those F/O's to CA then later downgrade them, it costs them BIG TIME. 3 months of CA pay, 3 months of 24/7 per diem, plus any lease cancellations, etc (See LOA 02-06 I *believe* is the number, that's from memory so could be wrong but it's in there somewhere).

Plus you retain recall rights for another 3 months so when they need more people, you just bounce back in regardless of seniority. Fun, huh?

We estimated it cost the company between $10,000 and $12,000 PER pilot to displace them back to the right seat. *OUCH*!

NWA reserves the right to take these 17 CRJs back out of service at a date no earlier than the end of March '07. I expect they will use this a carrot sometime towards the end of the year and maybe into 2008. It would make little sense to put these airplanse back into service and then turn around a month later and take them back.

Of course it doesn't make sense to put them in service and remove them a month later... isn't the whole point of this to intimidate the pilots into signing a contract (a crappy one w/ no scope protection for non-NWAirlink flying) ? Management sucks.

Well, the scope protection might not even matter, as we are about to examine here in the hell of XJ land. Our evil corporate overlord, Paul "f#ckhead" Foley, just decided because he didn't like our scope protection, he does not need to honor it, and has thrown it out.
