Heard this third hand. Can anyone confirm that American Airlines is planning on furloughing an additional 1,000 pilots? What would the hire date be on that one, and would it make it past poor lost souls from TWA?

-LFD not to be confused with a PFD

The number is 1000-1200 now. I don't know the exact # because
I don't care anymore. They are saying. No BK 3000 furloughs. If
there is a BK 4000 furloughs. there are TWA mixed in. Not many.
The guy that got me hired is 96. He believes he may make it until
June.
I doubt if I will ever see a seat at AA again. The whole thing is
ugly.

This is a lot of fun, ain't it? So much good news. I have been furloughed from them for 15 months now and have a flying job. Not a great one, but it is flying. Basically back to what I was doing 8 years ago only this time I am older and there is little chance to upgrade. Funny how I have spent my entire adult life trying to get hired by one of the "majors" and when it finally happens, I get to fly there for about a year and a half. BOOM. Done. I don't know if I will ever get recalled. This whole thing SUCKS. I do find it amusing, however, that when I was furloughed it was a "real shame". But when they start furloughing up the list above me, some of the "That's a shame" folks think it is a downright crime, a freakin' tragedy when their number gets called. I suppose that is just human nature.
Just venting..............
I would like to start a thread where we could all just freakin' vent!

So much for "no-furlough" clauses.

I could make more money on unemployment than I will at my new flying job......now THAT is a shame!

Cheers!

"It's a recession is when your neighbor gets layed off/furloughed."

"It's a depression when you get layed off/furloughed."

Very applicable to these rough times don't you all think?

Every time a Bush has been in The White House, I have been out of a job. They were both pilots. What gives? Some how we have to be able to blame this on Hillary. Someone give me the angle.

I vote on Hillary

Or rather her stupid husband for lobbing T-Hawk missles at every one and there mother in the middle east.

I know it's weak but i am trying to help

Jobear

Eight above the furlough cut........for now

*Not at AA just another soon to be outta work pilot*

Freddie,

Its been a while since my college economics-type classes but if I remember properly, economic policies take a few years to actually have an effect. Soooo, when the economy started to tank (before 9/11) it was partly the result of the administration from a few years earlier (Clinton). Well, that and people paying over $100 for a share for companies that were never showing profits.

Hope that helps. :)

Peace

Skeezer

PS I am sorry to hear about the additional furloughs. Lets hope things turn around soon.

Rider850,

Am I reading this correctly? Are you saying that the additional furloughs could reach people with hire dates as far back as 1996? If that is true, that is worse than I expected. Sorry to hear this.

I just sat next to a UAL J/S guy who is a 767 Captain and he is down right depressed.. He told me that in 30 years in this business, he's never seen it this grim... I for one have given up on ever working at AA..

I am also considering giving up this career... This whole thing is a bunch of bull**CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**!

Start the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** war already and lets get on with our lives!

Worse Than That

750Driver,

If the numbers the union is announcing are correct, furloughs will go back to the mid 1980s for the TWA folks. Many of our captains will be furloughed.....imagine that!

As much as I disliked Clinton as a president, I would love to blame all of this on his economic policy. But, in reality the economy goes up and it goes down....regardless of the economic policy of a presidential administration.

If you want to blame anything on Clinton, how about his relaxed military and foreign policies which may have allowed terror attacks such as September 11th to occur.

But the past is the past. We are here now with this situation to deal with, no matter who's fault it is. Therefore, we must stand unified and support our government.

I agree with all of you fellas, especially with the fact that when you want to hunt somebody down (Bin Laden), you don't launch 150 cruise missles-- you send in the Special Forces. The economy goes up and down, unfortunately it has been down as of late and fuel prices with the help of the Venezualans and the million barrel fire in NYC contribute. Regardless, the President is doing his job as best he can. Remember, he took an oath to protect us from enemies, foreign and domestic... Pray for a quick war and bring 'em all home safe!!!

Very true Blue Bayou!

Imagine? 6000 of us are already living it!!!

It's a **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** shame....but I think management kind of likes sticking it to us pilots.

Rider...
Just where are you getting your info?

These additional furlough numbers are purely rumor and speculation.

MD8Pilot ... I'm sorry to hear this news. Hopefully it will not happen. Let me tell you ... I'm still searching after 16 months, and the situation is not at all what I would have expected :(

Best wishes to all the AA folks.
